The effect of exogenous 5-aminolevulinic acid on the operation of antioxidant system in potato plants (Solanum tuberosum) under low temperature stress

Inglés. Potato growing appears one of the most important branches of agricultural production in the Republic of Belarus. Low temperature stress declines potato productivity and leads to destruction of seedlings. Therefore, development of the technologies of low-temperature resistance of potato appears a serious scientific problem. Application of plant growth regulators, in particular, 5-aminolevulinic acid, can cause stimulating effect on the process of growth and development of plants and increase their protective properties due to increment of anti-oxidative enzymes. The main goal of the research appears evaluation of the influence of exogenous 5-aminolevulinic acid on functioning of antioxidant system of potato plants within low temperature stress. The article shows that potato plants treated with ALA (1 mg/l) under normal growth conditions have higher antioxidant capacity compared with control plants due to higher content of glutathionine, water-soluble phenols and anthocyanins. Under low temperature stress (-4/+1 deg C, for 1 h) in ALA treated plants APX, GH are activated, glutathione pools, water-soluble phenols and antacyanins are increase, significantly exceeding these values in ALA untreated plants, that is consistent with our previous results that showed lower level of lipid peroxidation products and the low membrane permeability in ALA treated plants under stress. Thus, the results indicated that application of exogenous ALA improves potato tolerance to low temperature.

Установлено, что растения картофеля, обработанные 5-аминолевулиновой кислотой (АЛК, 1 мг/л), в нормальных условиях выращивания обладают более высоким антиоксидантным потенциалом по сравнению с контролем за счет более высокого содержания глутатиона, водорастворимых фенолов и антоцианов. При низкотемпературном стрессе (-4 градусов С, 1 ч) в обработанных АЛК растениях происходит активация аскор-батпероксидазы, глутатионредуктазы, возрастание пулов глутатиона, водорастворимых фенолов и антоцианов, значительно превышающих данные показатели в необработанных АЛК растениях, что согласуется с полученными нами ранее данными о более низком уровне продуктов перекисного окисления липидов и низкой проницаемости мембран в растениях, обработанных АЛК, при низкотемпературном стрессе. Таким образом, полученные результаты показывают, что обработка растений картофеля экзогенной АЛК способствует повышению их устойчивости к действию низких температур.
