Вопросы инноваций занимают важное место в экономике. Представлен критический обзор встречающихся в научной литературе трактовок понятия ‘инновации’, выявлены их недостатки и (или) слабые стороны. Определены свойства и характерные черты, присущие данной категории, предлагается уточнение и интерпретация понятия инновации в овощеводстве защищенного грунта. Инновации являются главной движущей силой научно-технического прогресса. Развитие овощеводства невозможно без активного внедрения разработок научно-технического прогресса и передового опыта. Основными критериями инноваций должны быть: новизна, коммерциализация, рыночный ориентир, востребованность рынком, стремление на использование достижений научно-технического прогресса и передового опыта, статус интеллектуальной собственности, производственная применимость, социальная направленность, положительный эффект. Внедрение, использование и распространение нововведений в овощеводстве защищенного грунта на основе использования достижений научно-технического прогресса и передового опыта направлены на инженерно-техническое, организационно-технологическое, социально-экологическое, финансово-экономическое, производственное, маркетинговое, селекционное, информационно-управленческое, кадровое совершенствование отрасли с целью повышения экономической эффективности и максимального удовлетворения потребностей населения качественных тепличных овощах.
