Relationship between Calling and Life Satisfaction of Volunteer Managers: Mediating Effect of Career Commitment

This study carried out for verifying the mediation effect of career commitment in the relationship between calling and life satisfaction for Korean volunteer managers. In order to achieve the objectives of this study, Survey was conducted for volunteer managers. Data was collected through a significant sampling, a total of 122 data was analyzed utilizing hierarchical regression analysis and bootstrapping analysis. The results were shown below. First, the calling of volunteer managers were found to give a significant positive effect on the life satisfaction. Second, the career commitment of volunteer managers were found to significantly mediate the relationship between calling and life satisfaction. Third, career commitment partially mediate the relationship between identification and person-environment-fit (IP) to life satisfaction and the relationship between transcendent guiding force (TGF) to life satisfaction among the three sub-dimensions of calling. And career commitment fully mediate the relationship between the sense and meaning & value-driven-behavior (SMVB) which is the last dimension of calling. In other words, it means that having a sense of purpose and fulfilling from one’s job and career affect indirectly through dedicating and having willing to advance their career not only directly affect to the life satisfaction. Further, it has found that people who recognized their work as to contribute to the development for the others and society will have a positive attitude towards life only when committed in their career. This study is significant for verifying the positive relationship between calling to life satisfaction, and the mediating effect of career commitment on these relationship empirically. Based on the research results, theoretical significance, suggestions and the applications to improving the life satisfaction and calling of volunteer managers were discussed. Finally it was proposed a subsequent study complementing the limitations of the study.
