In the modern world, chronic diseases such as obstructive pulmonary disease, arthritis, kidney and heart failure, or diabetes mellitus are increasingly becoming the cause of disability, early aging, and decline in the quality of life. These pathologies are characterized by systemic inflammation, which leads to phenotypic aging. The klotho protein is currently considered to be one of the most important markers of this process. The review focuses on the effect of drugs on the level of one of the markers of aging, which is the klotho protein that includes patients with type 2 diabetes. The article examines its potential role in the pathogenesis of impaired glucose tolerance as well as the possibility of using it as a marker of the effectiveness of pharmacotherapy. The review presents research data on the effect of drugs (antihypertensive, hypoglycemic, etc.) on the level of the klotho protein and the possible consequences of such changes.
