Detection of a change in frequency of a behavioural activity [chickens]
1981
Hurnik, J.F. | Mullen, K. (Guelph Univ., Ontario (Canada). Dept. of Animal and Poultry Science)
This work extends the ideas of Mullen et al. (1980) on the comparison of measuring events and counting states, to the case where the rate of occurrence of an activity changes at specific times during the observation period. Techniques of quality control are used to detect when a change occurs, and formulae for the new rate of counting are given. The methods are applied to the behaviour of hens, which are being observed for feeding and resting frequency (Hurnik, 1979)
