The effect of wheat treated and untreated by chemical hydrolysis in feed mixtures for Shaver Starcross-288 layers (age 36 - 42 weeks) on the content of calcium, inorganic phosphorus and activity of alkaline phosphate (ALP) in blood serum and on structure of egg shell at different amount of metabolizable energy (ME = 10.93 - 11.48 - 11.94 MJ.kg-1) was studied. During the chemical analysis the crushed grain (200 kg) was mixed (2 turn.min.-1) with 120 l of water solution of ethanol containing 2 litre of concentrated hydrochloric acid. The reaction proceeded 5 days at 20 degrees Celsius. Feed mixtures with treated wheat positively influenced the content of calcium, inorganic phosphorus and activity of ALP in blood serum (ME = 11.48 and 11.94 MJ.kg-1). They didn't influence the external crystalline coat thickness of egg shell. However, they negatively influenced the palisade coat, conical coat with basal protuberances and thickness of egg shell.
