Effects of some anaesthetics and intermediary products of their synthesis on chromosomes and mitoses in root tips of Vicia sativa

Twelve samples of substances were studied cytologically. Three of them (heptacaine hydrochloride, heptacaine-N-oxide and 2-aminophenol) have shown slight mutagenic effects both on the chromosomes and genomes. The rest (2-acetaminophenol, 1-piperidinoethylalcohol, cinchocaine hydrochloride, trimecaine hydrochloride, pentacaine hydrochloride, and diothane) have appeared to be non-mutagenic.
