The systematical bookkeeping activity (or official profitability survey) of agriculture was begun in Finland in the beginning of this century. Bookkeeping activity is conducted by the agricultural advisory organizations and the agricultural economics research institute. Profitability bookkeeping farms observe regularly incomes and expenditures, changes in property, labour input, crop yields, other outputs and also private expenditure. Bookkeeping cover the whole economy of the farm. The economy of the bookkeeping farm is divided into five parts. They are real farming, forest economy, subsidiary earnings, private households and the property of financing. Bookkeeping farms get annually closing of accounts, which indicated the economical business result of the real farming. The information of bookkeeping farms is annually prepared statistics and many kinds of analysis. The information collected from beforementioned parts is used continually in different purposes in farm policy and in advisory work. The number of bookkeeping farms has been about 1100 in the last years.
