Oviposition and larval dispersal of the common armyworm, Mythimna convecta (Walker)(Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)[pest of cereals and grasses]

Field and laboratory studies identified a distinct preference for oviposition in crevices in dried plant material and seedheads. First instar larvae use fine silken threads for aerial dispersal; field trapping found that 30 percent were transported 2 m after 7 days of light to medium breezes.
