Indigenous fruit trees in southern Africa: the potential of Uapaca kirkiana

Uapaca kirkiana is a southern African tree that is highly valued for its fruit, wood and medicinal products. This species has been overlooked by researchers as such its potential has not been unveiled. This paper describes its value to the local population (which include fruit, fodder, traditional medicine, fuelwood, poles for fencing etc.) and the work going on in domesticating this species.
