The curvula agronomic type was more competitive than the Consol or the chloromelas, which were comparable. Festuca arundinacea, Dactylis glomerata, and Phalaris aquatica were each able to reduce the herbage of the curvula type in spring, but were themselves liable to suppression during summer and autumn. The relationship of these grasses with the other lovegrass types was similar, but the differences were smaller. Among the temperate grasses, the descending order of competitive ability was F. arundinacea, D. glomerata and P. aquatica; in all species, ability reduced with time.
