[What are non-antimicrobial growth stimulants?]
1997
Guidon, D. (Eidg. Forschungsanstalt fuer Nutztiere (RAP), Posieux (Switzerland))
In Switzerland non-antimicrobial growth stimulants are becoming a matter of discussion. Now even more as producer organisations and the big food retailers (Migros and Coop) have agreed to renounce to antimicrobial growth promoters in animal nutrition. Non-antimicrobial growth promoters include: probiotics, enzymes, trace elements, organic acids, oligosaccharides, nucleotides, and certain plant ingredients. In contrast to antibiotic growth stimulants, there are few or no positive research findings as to the growth stimulating effects of these substances. Moreover, their efficacy is often uncertain
