This paper is dealing with current issues in functional foods and its importance in theory and in the practise. The definition of the field is followed by current dilemmas in the field and different models of functional foods and functional nutrition are discussed. The first Japanese model as well as American approach is disused to be followed by European model, which is current under the development.
