Extract: The purpose of this paper is twofold: to identify the literature relevant to understanding women's productivity in agricultural systems, and to propose a coherent framework for examining women's productive activities. Such an initial effort, by its very nature, must be exploratory rather than definitive. Our purpose is to begin to clarify issues and identify linkages which will promote more precise analyses in the future.
