Production traits of indigenous chicken in rural condition of Assam

A study was conducted in six districts of Assam viz. Cachar, Morigaon, Dibrugarh, Darrang, Dhubri and Kokrajhar comprising of 100 farmers from each district. A total of 7625 numbers of birds were considered for the present study. The various traits studied were body weight, age at sexual maturity, egg production, egg weight and shank length. The average adult body weights for male and female were 1.44±0.01 and 1.14±0.01 kg respectively, age at sexual maturity found on 6–7 months of age, egg production was 50–60 numbers per year, average weight of the egg was 35.27±0.l5 g and mean shank lengths for male were 7.07±0.01 and for female is 6.11±0.01 cm, respectively.
