FIRST RECORD OF CHICKS OF WILSON’S PLOVER (Charadrius wilsonia) IN SARIGUA NATIONAL PARK, HERRERA PROVINCE, PANAMA | PRIMER REGISTRO DE POLLUELOS DE CHORLO DE WILSON (Charadrius wilsonia) EN EL PARQUE NACIONAL SARIGUA, PROVINCIA DE HERRERA, PANAMÁ

Inglés. In this note, the first observation of chicks of the Wilson’s Plover (Charadrius wilsonia) is recorded in the Sarigua National Park, located in the province of Herrera, Panama. Observations of three chicks together with their parents were made on July 7, 2021, near the shrimp farms in the park. Black-necked Stilt chicks (Himantopus mexicanus) were also sighted. During this visit cars were seen in the park near the observation area. More observations are necessary to learn the nesting periods of these and other species so that access restrictions can be developed for people and vehicles during the nesting months. This species faces threats from alterations to its habitats.

Español; castellano. En esta nota se registra la primera observación de polluelos de Chorlos de Wilson (Charadrius wilsonia) en el Parque Nacional Sarigua, ubicado en la provincia de Herrera, Panamá. Las observaciones se realizaron el 7 de julio de 2021 cerca de las camaroneras del parque, registrando tres polluelos juntos con sus padres. También se avistaron crías de Cigüeñuelas Cuellinegras (Himantopus mexicanus). Durante esta visita, se registraron eventos de disturbios antropogénicos por el ingreso de carros al área. Es importante aumentar el esfuerzo de muestreo en el parque con el fin de conocer el período de nidificación de esta especie y de otras, además de establecer parámetros de acceso a las personas, especialmente la restricción de vehículos sobre el área durante los meses de anidación de las especies, que actualmente enfrentan a nivel mundial amenazas por alteraciones de sus hábitats.
