With the exception of the domestic cat, all felid species (Felidae) are currently threatened with extinction in their natural habitat. To develop effective and optimal wild cat conservation programmes with assisted reproductive technology (ART) it is necessary to combine advances from different disciplines of science, starting from the biology of the species, through research into the population and habitat, assisted reproductive technologies, establishment of gene banks, developing bioinformatic systems, and ending with biodiversity and endangered species management. In the last few years knowledge of felid reproduction has expanded considerably thanks to comparative studies utilising the domestic cat as a research model for endangered wild cats. Basic reproductive techniques utilised in both domestic cat breeding and rescuing wild felid populations that are threatened with extinction include semen collection and cryopreservation, artificial insemination, oocyte collection, in vitro maturation, in vitro fertilisation, somatic cloning, and embryo transfer. The main directions in which assisted reproductive technologies are being developed in wild cat conservation implementations and the contribution of Polish research centres in advancing these methods are presented.

Lee, Y.S. | Lim, C.H. (Seoul National Univ., Suwon (Korea R.). Coll of Veterinary Medicine)
An ultrastructural study was to investigate on 2 cases of canine leiomyosarcoma. The nuclei of most tumor cells showed bilobate appearance. Most cells of the tumors had no distinct basement membrane. Most cells of the tumors had a degenerative rough endoplasmic reticulum. Intercellular matrix contained some amounts of collagen. Attachment areas between tumor cells were not apparent, but a few tight junction were clearly seen. Myofibrils were present in bipolar end area

The development of the dentistry was delayed in the preventive internal in wild animals. Some international papers regarding wild animal dentistry already had been carried through with animals originary from captivity and free life of some species of diverse geographic distributions, but not specific to the great neotropical felines (Panthera onca and Puma concolor). It was the aim of this paper to survey the prevalence of maloclusion in neotropical felines in the institutions visited in the State of São Paulo. For the study we used a sample of 42 jaguars (Panthera onca) and 36 pumas (Puma concolor), totalizing seventy and eight 78 animals , proceeding from 18 institutions of such species in captivity in the State of São Paulo. All animals had been examined, when it was observed if the occlusion was in accordance with the normal for the species. The teeth had been identified one by one, examined directly by means of dental explorer. The maloclusion was present in 47.61% (20 cases) in Panthera onca and two individuals of Puma concolor (5.55.00%). The animals with maloclusions apparently did not have problems of food apprehension or chewing ability, even though they presented in the region of teeth with more reduced interproximal space, thus plaque the lack of removal of this plaque can provoke oral problems.

| Ketamine HCL has frequently been used in clinical and surgical practice because of the easy acquisition, applicationand safety of the anesthesia it provides. The objective of the present experiment was to observe possible
interferences with the electrocardiographic tracing of cats submitted to the ketamine+chlorpromazine combination. The study was conducted in 10 adult cats of both sexes considered as clinically normal and provided by the animal house of the Veterinary Hospital, Faculty of Agrarian and Veterinary Sciences, campus of Jaboticabal-UNESP. Each animal received ketamine HCL at the dose of 15 mg/kg, in combination with 1 mg/kg chlorpromazine HCL, diluted in the same syringe and applied intramuscularly. The animals were then evaluated for heart and respiratory rates and rectal temperature. Electrocardiographic evaluation (ECG) was performed in the leads of the limbs, at a speed of 50 mm/s and with calibration of 1mv = 2cm, for a period of 60 minutes. Only rectal temperature, heart rate and P-R interval of the ECG presented significant differences at the different times observed. The methodology used permits us to conclude that ketamine in combination with chlorpromazine can be safety used in cats.
