Phytomitogen induced blast transformation of guinea pig, 1; effect of medium, phytomitogen and cell concentration on the uptake of 3H-thymidine
1986
Kim, J.S. (Kyongsang National Univ., Chinju (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine) | Bak, U.B. (Seoul National Univ., Seoul (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine)
The present study has been carried out to investigate the optimal condition on the blastogenesis of guinea pig lymphocytes. A microculture system in conjuction with a semiautomatic multiple sample harvester (SAMSH) was used to study the in vitro optimal condition of guinea pig lymphocytes. Data were presented to show many variables that were involved in studying the responses of guinea pig lymphocyte in a microculture system to the stimulation of Concanavalin A (Con A) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS)

Kim, J.M. | Yoon, Y.D. | Park, J.M. (Rural Development Administration, Anyang (Korea R.). Veterinary Research Inst.) | Kim, B.H. (Kyongbuk National Univ., Taegu (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine)
The oil emulsion and alhydrogel pilli vaccines were prepared from a strain (O9: K35, K99, F41) of enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli isolated from calves with diarrhea and their immunogenicity was tested in guinea-pigs, pregnant goats and cows. Serum antibody responses to K99 and F41 antigens in guinea-pigs given experimental oil and gel vaccines peaked at 4 and 6 weeks after vaccinations. At that time, the mean hemagglutination inhibition titers to K99 and F41 antigens in guinea pigs given oil vaccine were 1:25 and 1:1,218 and those given gel vaccine were 1:54 and 1:724 respectively

1986
Jeon, Y.S. (Seoul National Univ., Seoul (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine)
The bovine serum influencing the growth of swine testicle (ST) cell and the END effect of hog cholera SN test was studied. Bovine whole serum of 16 (76.2%) and 4 (19.0%) samples out of 21 have shown a positive ST cell growth and the END effect, respectively. However, all of 21 (100%) and 8 (38.1%) samples out of 21 serum supernatant fractions, prepared from the bovine whole serum, have shown positive ST cell growth and END effect, respectively

This paper deals with the incidence of antibiotic resistance and of R plasmids in 319 Salmonella strains isolated from various samples on 7 piggeries in Taegu, Kyongbuk, Kyongnam and Chungnam and a slaughter house in Taegu during the period from May, 1984 to May, 1985. Of the 319 strains examined, 250 (78.4%) were resistant to one or more antibiotics such as ampicillin (Am), chloramphenicol (Cm), gentamicin (Gm), kanamycin (Km), sulfadimethoxine (Su), streptomycin (Sm), rifampicin (Rf) and tetracycline (Tc), and higher resistant to Su (74.9%), Sm (53.0%) and Tc (28.5%). Only two Salmonella strains isolated from A and C farms were resistant to Rf and Gm, respectively

1986
Wee, S.H. | Park, Y.J. | Lee, C.G. (Chonnam National Univ., Kwangju (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine)
Samples of feces from 1,080 cattle than in Chonnam area were examined for Buxtonella sulcata. Of these, 231 cattle (21.4%) were found to be infected with the ciliate. The incidence was higher in the dairy cattle in the beef cattle. The cysts of the ciliate were almost spherical or sub-spherical and the mean length of 79.58 +- 11.76 micro m corresponds quite closely with the mean width of 77.29 +- 11.41 micro m. The trophozoite was characterized by the position of the cytostome near the open cytopyge and by the curved groove running down from cytostome to the end of the body

1986
Lee, H.S. (Taegu Oriental Medical Coll., Taegu (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine) | Lee, J.H. (Kyongbuk National Univ., Taegu (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine)
Endocrine cells were observed in the gastrointestinal tract of the squirrels by light microscopy using Grimelius and Masson-Hamperl silver impregnation, and in the stomach and duodenum by electron microscopy. Light microscopically, argyrophil cell decreased gradually in number in the pyloric region and ileum, stomach, duodenum and jejunum and rectum in the order listed. Argentaffin cells were moderately distributed in the stomach, pyloric region and duodenum, while absent in the jejunum, ileum and rectum

1986
Cho, H.T. | Chung, K.Y. (Kyongnam Animal Health Laboratory, Chinju (Korea R.)) | Suh, M.D. (Kyongsang National Univ., Chinju (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine)
This survey was conducted to investigate the prevalence of the internal parasites of Holstein cattle rearing in western Kyongnam including Chinyang, Sachun, Namhae, Haedong, Sanchung, Hamyang, Geochang and Hapchun Area(Gun). A total of eight hundred and twenty five heads of Holstein cattle was randomly selected for the faecal examinations and the internal parasitisms were examined by floatation method using saturated salt solution and sedimentation method using 0.5% trio-soap solution

1986
Kwak, S.D. (Kyongsang National Univ., Chinju (Korea R.). Dept. pf Veterinary Medicine)
The papillary tubercles (PTs) developed on the splenic capsule of normal Landrace pigs were collected and their histological structures were observed with light microscope. The external features of the PTs were smooth spherical or oval form protruded on the splenic capsules. On cross section of PTs, the shapes were predominantly round or elliptical single follicular form, and were often multifollicular and irregular form in some PTs

1986
Lee, B.W. (Chonnam National Univ., Kwangju (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine) | Shin, J.U. (Kyongsang National Univ., Chinju (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine)
The measurement of angled erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), as a replacement for perpendicular ESR, for cattle blood was scrutinized since it has been well known that perpendicular ESR in cattle was tpp slow to be adopted as an effective clinical test. Samples of blood were taken from 186 Korean native cattle over 2 years old. Average values of perpendicular ESR/24hrs in 15 apparently healthy cattle, as measured by Wintrobe, Westergren and capillary tubes, were 5.8 +- 2.2, 11.1 +- 3.7 and 10.4 +-4.5% respectively, which were found to be similar to the values of perpendicular ESR/hr of normal blood of human
