Induced aerocystitis and hemato-immunological parameters in Nile tilapia fed supplemented diet with essential oil of Lippia alba

The present study evaluated the dietary supplementation with essential oil of Lippia alba on the hemato-immunological parameters of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) submitted to acute inflammation induced by carrageenin injection in the swim bladder. For a period of 45 days, 96 fish were divided in four treatments in triplicate, as follows: fish fed supplemented diet with essential oil of L. alba (4 mL kg-1 dry ration) injected with carrageenin; fish fed supplemented diet with cereal alcohol injected with carrageenin; fish fed unsupplemented diet with essential oil injected with carrageenin; fish fed unsupplemented diet and noninjected. Cortisol levels, erythrogram, leukogram and the inflammatory infiltrate were analyzed 6 h after inflammatory stimulus. Carrageenin-injected fish showed acute inflammatory reaction in the swim bladder characterized by higher infiltrate of neutrophils and monocytes. The circulating neutrophils number was significantly higher in fish fed L. alba when compared to other treatments. No difference in cortisol levels was found. For dose, time and administration form tested, supplementation with essential oil of L. alba did not present anti-inflammatory activity. On the other hand, influence of dietary supplementation was observed on the neutrophils number after induced aerocystitis highlighting its immunomodulatory characteristic.

This study was carried out on serum samples collected from broiler breeder chicken flocks vaccinated with avian influenza (AI) H5N1 inactivated vaccine. These flocks included 23 flocks aged 13 to 47 weeks reared in close houses in 7 sites; two vaccinated breeder flocks for HI antibody monitoring by 5 weeks interval samples and 8 flocks aged 41 weeks reared in different sites with identified females and males samples. The vaccine was used in a dose of 0.2 ml at 1 day in hatchery and revaccinated with 0.5 ml at age of 18 days, 19- 20 weeks and 40 weeks. Hemagglutination inhibition (HI) test was carried out against homologous antigen. The study pointed out that AI H5N1 inactivated vaccine under field application induced irregular and low HI titres following the 1st two doses ranged from log 2 0.0 to 4.15 with great variation between flocks, where samples with titre 0-2 ranged from 20 to 100%. The 3rd dose at 19-20 weeks was essential to elevate HI titres 3.25 to 7.44 with more homogenizes flock immunity and lower percentage of titres 0-2 ( 0-20 %) and as measured by HI test. Revaccination of layer flocks at 40 weeks (fourth dose) improves flock immunity facing stress of egg production as evaluated by HI (5.52 - 6.33) and lower negative percentage (5.5-11.7%). Monitoring of breeder flock every 5 weeks is essential to detect proper time of revaccination as each flock has its HI antibody curve. There was a difference in HI tit re rang log 2 0.33 to 1.2 between male and female chicks reared in the same house, but this variation not affecting flock mean. Birds at aged 41 weeks having titres < log2 3 (Seronegative) were protected when exposed to contact with infected flock as showed no clinical signs or change in HI titres after 12 days. In conclusion the usage of homologous inactivated H5N1 vaccine in 4 doses in layer flocks was of value in improving chicken immunity to AI H5N1 wild strain circulate in our field

50 specimens of the Mullets Mugil cephalus were collected from the Libian coastal waters near Misurata city in Libya. 7 different species of trematodes isolated from the intestine of the mullets were briefly described. Haploporus benedenii, Haploporus lateralis, Lecithobotryes putrescens, Saccocoelium tensum, Saccocoelium gohari, Haplosplanchnus caudatus and Haplosplanchnus pachysomus. It is worthy to mention that, the present work is reported for the first time in Libya

Fifty raw ewe’s and goat’s milk samples (25 of each) were examined for total viable, psychrotrophic count and the presence of foodborne pathogenic microorganisms. The obtained results revealed that the mean total bacterial counts/ml were 1.9 x103 and 1.4 x103 in the examined samples, respectively. Psychrotrophic bacteria could be detected in all examined samples (100.0 %) with mean values of 7.8 x10 and 6.3 x10/mL, respectively. Staphylococci, Enterococci, and E. coli , were detected in (52.0 & 84.0 %), (44.0 & 36.0 %) and (36.0 & 44.0 %) of the examined samples with mean values/ml of (7.2 x10 & 6.1 x10), (2.5 x10 & 2.4 x10) and (3.0 x10 & 2.1x10), respectively. The predominant isolated bacterial strains were Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Enterococcus faecalis, Enterococcus faecium and E. coli, at percentages of (24.3 & 19.2 %), (16.2 & 32.7 %), (10.8 & 13.5 %), (19.0 & 17.3 %) and (29.7 & 17.3 %) of total isolates, respectively. On the other hand, Clostridium perfringens, Campylobacter jejuni, Corynebacterium bovis and Salmonellae failed to be detected in all examined samples. The sanitary and public health importance of these organisms as well as preventive measures to improve the quality of milk and safeguard the consumers from infection were discussed.

Locally isolated EHV-1 (2002) was successfully adapted to different available cell lines (BHK, VERO, MDBK and MDCK). Characteristic cytopathic effect (CPE) was observed from the first passage and the virus growth became regular with constant incubation periods at 2nd day in BHK and VERO cells 4th day in both MDBK and MDCK cells post inoculation with maximum titers of 7, 8.5, 7.75, 6.2 log10 TCID50/ml in BHK6, VERO10, MDBK5 and MDCK5 cell lines; respectively. Growth kinetics of EHV-1 in VERO cells, showed initial increase in cell associated viruses (CAV) and cell free viruses (CFV) were at 8 and 48 hours post inoculation then reaching their peak at 72 and 96 hours post inoculation in CAV and CFV; respectively. Detection of viral protein in infected cells was done using IFT. It revealed that high fluorescence was shown at 4 till 72 hours post inoculation in CAV and 72 hours in CFV. In conclusion, EHV-1 is more cell associated and IFT is considered as a rapid and sensitive test for detection of viral protein

Outbreaks of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) cause severe economic loss tothe livestock industries in terms of loss of meat, milk production and the highmortality rateespecially in calves. This study was intended for detection,isolation and molecular characterization of FMDV circulated strain amongdifferent regions in Beni-Suef governorate, Egypt during 2015 and 2017. Onehundred field samples were collected from clinically diseased cattle andbuffaloes including vesicular fluid and sloughed epithelial membrane.Molecular detection and differentiation of FMDV serotypes by RT-PCRshowed that (71%) were positive for serotype O indicating its predominance inBeni-Suef, Egypt.Also (18%) were positive for serotype SAT2 and (7%) wereun-typed serotype being only positive for universal primer. Twenty sampleswere isolated on BHK-21 cells clone 13. Three samples showed thecharacteristic CPE of FMDV after blind passage 4 times. Sequences of VP1coding-region of the three isolated FMD virus showed that the three isolatedviruses were serotype O. The phylogenetic analysis of the isolated virusesreveled that they were closely related to type O of those reported in Ismailia,Behira, Giza and Cairo during 2016 with identity ranged from 97.7% - 99.8%.The most relevant outboard isolate was SUD/8/2008 with 93% identity afterBlast homology search. However, the phylogenetic tree analysis revealed thatthe three FMDV type O isolates FMDV/serotype O/Beni-Suef/2017 differspartially from all other Egyptian serotypes of 2016. In conclusion, serotype Owas the most prevalent FMDV serotype in Beni-Suef, Egypt.

Milk and dairy products are an important exposure route for organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) to humans. For this reason milk, kareish cheese and yoghurt analyzed for the presence of fourteen organochlorine pesticides namely Alpha HCH, Gamma HCH, Delta HCH, Aldrin, Gamma Chlordane, Endosulfan, Dieldrin, Endrin, , p,p'-DDE, p,p'-DDD, p,p'-DDT and methoxychlor using gas chromatography with electron capture detector (GC-ECD. A total of 90 random samples of raw cow's milk samples and dairy products (30 of each) were collected from 4 districts in Fayoum Governorate (Fayoum, Etssa, senoris and Tamia) during a period from September 2017 to January 2018. The results indicated that 6.60%(6/90) , 5.50%(5/90), 25.55%(23/90), 13.33%(12/9), 11.11%(10/90), 1.11%(1/90), 18.88%(17/90), 8.88%(8/90), 15.55%(14/90), 17.77%(16/90) and 22.22%(20/90) of the examined samples were contaminated with Alpha HCH, Gamma HCH, Delta HCH, Aldrin, Gamma Chlordane, Endosulfan, Dieldrin, Endrin, p,p'-DDE, p,p'-DDD and methoxychlor,respectively. None of the examined samples revealed the presence of Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (p,p'-DDT), Heptachlor and Heptachlor epoxide. Generally the concentrations in the examined samples followed the order of Delta HCH > methoxychlor > Gamma HCH > p,p'-DDD > Dieldrin > Aldrin > Gamma Chlordane > Endosulfan > p,p'-DDE > Endrin > Alpha HCH.

This work was planned to investigate the bacteria isolated from broiler chickens head suffered from naked eye pathological lesions. Out of 200 examined head lesions, the result revealed that the major pathogens associated with swollen head syndrome (SHS) were Escherichia coli, Streptococcus dysgalactiae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Antimicrobial sensitivity pattern against 11 different antimicrobials proved that isolates were resistant to most of the tested antimicrobial agents. PCR was applied on 4 MDR E. coli, 4 S. dysgalactiae and 2 P. aeruginosa for detection of some resistance and virulence genes. The results of E. coli isolates revealed that blaTEM gene was the most prevalent in all isolates (100%) followed by tetA (A), aada1, aada2 and aacC genes. Meanwhile tetA (B) gene was found in 3 (75%), while aadB gene was not detected in any isolates. All S. dysgalactiae proved to harbour 16srRNAgene also all S. dysgalactiae were 100% positive for tuf gene followed by speF gene which found in 2 isolate (50%). The results of PCR of P. aeruginosa isolates revealed that toxA gene was the most prevalent gene found in all isolates (100%) followed by lasI. Then, phzM gene was found in one isolate (50%).

The experiment was designed to investigate the immunomodulating effect of lector 50 on general health and immune response of broiler chicks to Mycoplasma gallisepticum vaccination in commercial broiler chicks. the obtained results reveled significantly higher effects on body weight ,bursal, and thymic index on lector treated group of chickens, while no effects on spleen index. Also significant improvement in total and differential leukocytic count as well as significantly higher antibody titer was detected by ELISA in lector 50 treated groups.

Fifty five milk samples were collected from dairy Friesian cows suffering from clinical mastitis in a farm at Quena Governorate. The samples were subjected to microbiological examination .The main isolated pathogenic bacteria were identified biochemically as Escherichia coli (36.3%), Staphylococcus aureus (23.6%) Streptococcus agalactiae (18.2%), Klebsiella pneumoniae (12.7%) and bacterial free samples (9.1%) . Sensitivity tests for the bacterial isolates revealed that the tested strains were sensitive to ciprofloxacin, nortril, gentamicin and lincospectin
