Effects of Replacing Protein of Fishmeal with Protein of Poultry By-product Meal on Growth Performance, Body Composition, Liver Histological Changes and Selected Serum Parameters of Nile tilapia

This research evaluated the viability of completely and partially replacing the protein of fishmeal (FM) with the protein of poultry by-product meal (PBM) for juvenile Nile tilapia fish. One hundred and eighty unsexed Nile tilapia fish have been randomly assigned to four treatment groups, with three replicates including 15 Nile tilapia fish in each replicate stocked in 12 glass aquaria for nine weeks. PBM incorporation levels in the diet at 50% (G2), 75% (G3), and 100% (G4) protein content of fish meal substituted for the fish meal-based control diet have been compared (100% fish meal, G1). The final body weight (FBW), body weight gain (BWG), specific growth rate (SGR), and protein efficiency ratio (PER) varied considerably across all treatment groups (p> 0.05). FBW, BWG, SGR, and PER were improved for fish fed PBM and were superior in the high level of PBM (G4). However, the morphometric indexes do not significantly differ (p > 0.05). Fat & ash % of body composition was higher in all groups containing PBM in particular (G4) as compared with the control one. In conclusion, it can be said that a full replacement PBM protein for FM protein is tolerable in Nile tilapia fish. Several changes in biochemical parameters and antioxidant status markers were observed. The histological exam of the liver in all groups that contained PBM revealed no abnormalities. However, replacing 75% of the protein of FM with PBM's protein is the optimal degree in term of maintaining meat quality and some of the blood parameters.

Staphylococcus aureus is a major pathogen that affects both people and animals. Staphylococcus aureus causes food poisoning in addition to invasive diseases as arthritis and septicemia. This study was done on 70 chicken samples obtained from 7 different farms of chickens with symptoms of arthritis in Kafr El-sheikh government, Egypt. In this study out of 70 samples of chickens from different farms, 37 (52.8%) samples were recognized as coagulase-positive staphylococci (CoPS) and 33 (47.1%) were recognized as coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS). By using the microtitre plate method, seven out of 37 (18.9%) CoPS were positive for biofilm production with variable degrees. The pattern of antibacterial sensitivity of 7 Staphylococcus aureus isolates against 12 commercially available antibiotic discs showed 100 % resistance to oxytetracycline then Amoxicillin (71.43%), Erythromycin (57.14%), Norfloxacin (14.29%), Tetracycline (42.86), Sulphamethoxazole (42.86%), Gentamicin (42.86%), Ampicillin (42.86%), kanamycin (28.57), cephatotin (28.57), doxycycline (0%) and the least was observed with chloramphenicol (0%). seven of positive S. aureus isolates were introduced in order to identify the staphylococcal enterotoxin genes, SEA, SEB, SEC, SED, and SEE and integron by PCR test Which 4 out of 7 isolates (57.1 %) were positive for SEB and SED only while were other isolate were negative for all SE gene. Class 1 integron cassettes were detected in 6 isolates from 7 (85.7%) of tested isolates. In conclusion, this is the first study to report the detection and identification of enterotoxin and class 1 integron in S. aureus isolated from poultry meat of chicken that suffered from arthritis.

A significant source of high quality animal protein, vitamins, and minerals are meat products. However, during the course of production or during the life of the animals used to produce the meat for these businesses, heavy metals may be present in meat products. The amount of dangerous metals like lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), and trace elements like copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) that remain in such items is obviously unknown. In order to determine the residual Pb, Cd, Cu, and Zn concentrations in three meat products, pasterma, luncheon and sausage, this study was carried out. Additionally, for Egyptian consumers, estimated daily intakes (EDI) and potential health concerns associated with consuming such meat products were calculated. The obtained results showed that the evaluated products were contaminated with the tested metals at varying rates. The highest Cd, Cu, and Zn contents and contamination levels were generally seen in pasterma. While Pb contamination rates at luncheons were highest. The maximum allowable limits for heavy metal residues were not exceeded in any samples. The calculated estimated daily intakes, hazard ratio, and hazard index did not identify any potential concerns related to Egyptian consumers' consumption of such meat products.

Bivalves Mollusks have a potential benefit which include protection from anemia due to its content of iron and vit B12 in addition they pose a threat in promoting the ability to be contaminated by different heavy metals residues as a result of mining, industrial production untreated sewage sludge. Hg, Pb, Cd, As and Cr are the main five toxic heavy metals that induce human poisoning. For evaluation of Hg, Pb, Cd, As and Cr residues in Bivalve Mollusks in Fayoum province and their potential hazards, a total of 64 random samples of Bivalve Mollusks (Callista Florida species) were collected from the fish markets of Fayoum City, (Wadi Elrayan), Egypt The results revealed that the mean residues of Hg, Pb, Cd, As and Cr were 0.75, 0.77, 0.089, 7.285 and 0.011 mg/kg/ww, respectively. All samples examined for Hg and As exceeded the PML while Pb and Cd lied with the PML The collected samples were subjected to soaking in running water for 30 minutes; soaking in 5% acetic acid solution for 30 minutes and boiling with 5% acetic acid solution for 15 minutes .The heights reduction % of heavy metals residual levels were recorded after treatment in boiling 5% acetic acid treatment with the following reduction %; Hg (80%), Pb (67.6%), Cd (77.5%), As (44.35%) and Cr (75.76%). The assessment of Hazard quotient (HQ) and hazard index (HI) value was exceeded 1 which indicates a potential risk to human health and TR was > 1x10-4 which indicates a carcinogenic risk to the local consumers and will face high chronic risk if they consume Bivalve Mollusks on regular basis in their diet.

Liver is budget-friendly and full of nutrients including protein, and micronutrients as vitamin B12, vitamin A, riboflavin, copper, and iron. Liver appeared as the most affected organ among offal of slaughtered animals. This work had studied the pathological lesions in a total of 85200 different slaughtered animals in many providence abattoirs in Suez Canal region through year 2021. The direct economic loss from organs condemnation (Kg) was also assessed. In 2021, a total of 4200, 64800 and 16200 camels, cattle, and sheep respectively were slaughtered for domestic consumption. The percent of liver lesions from camels, cattle, and sheep were 1.04%, 3.62%, and 2.85 respectively. The total economic losses due to the liver condemnation of camel, cattle and sheep were 31680 LE (2023 $), 1313760 LE (83893 $) and 138600 LE (8851 $) respectively. The total economic loss due to liver condemnation reached 1484040 LE (94766 $). The results of the current study made clear the need for the creation of an efficient program to combat Egypt's meat-related social problems.

Escherichia coli infections cause significant financial losses for the worldwide chicken economy, so this research is being conducted to evaluate the efficacy of the inactivated multivalent Escherichia coli vaccine. Six groups were created from a total of 120 broiler chicks; the groups (1 and 3) were received E. coli inactivated vaccine at day 7 and challenged with O78 and O128 respectively, groups 2 and 4 were referred to as the control of challenge for the Escherichia coli strains O78 and O128. Groups 5 and 6 were maintained as the non-vaccinated and non-challenged control negative group and vaccinated non challenged group respectively. Challenged with E. coli strains of heterologous O128 and homologous O78 were given at 28 days old broilers by injection into the muscle of the thigh with 0.2ml contained 107 CFU / bird. Moreover, the performance measurements of body weight per gram, feed intake and feed conversion ratio were measured; histopathological findings, clinical symptoms, rate of mortality and total intestinal counts of Escherichia coli were also examined. The study revealed that the vaccination of COLI-VAC™ E. coli provided a significant defense against the challenge between homologous O78 strain and heterologous O128 strain. Just used the aforementioned parameters, Groups 1 and 3 that vaccinated at seven days old and challenged at 28 days old chicks with homologous and heterologous (O78 and O128) serotypes of E. coli provided impressive protection against all those non-vaccinated chicks (Groups 2 and 4) that were challenged with O78 and O128 serotypes of E. coli.

Salmonella spp.; a major zoonotic pathogen worldwide could cause serious diseases that hinder the productivity in calf farms. This study discussed the antibacterial efficacy of the Marbofloxacin drug in calves affected with Salmonella spp. and how it impacted the animal body’s haemato-biochemical changes. Salmonella spp. was isolated from diarrheic cases (18.8%) along with other bacteria which were also isolated in varying degrees. Salmonella isolates exhibited multiple serovars’ identities. Also, they exhibited a multidrug resistant (MDR) pattern. Moreover, PCR approach confirmed both genotypic and phenotypic resistance traits of highly virulent MDR Salmonella isolates. In a trial to evaluate the anti-Salmonella effect of the Marbofloxacin drug, three groups of calves were divided; the first group (G1) was diarrheic without any drug administration, the second (G2) was diarrheic but intramuscularly administered with Marbofloxacin (2ml/50 Kg B.W.) while the control (healthy) group was (G3). The haemato-biochemical results of Salmonella infected group recorded significant increases in RBCs count, PCV, Hb, and leukocytes with marked neutrophilia, monocytosis, and lymphopenia. Moreover, high rates of AST, ALT, urea and creatinine were recorded as well as serum globulin (P<0.05) was extremely increased. Also, a high increase of serum potassium but with notably limited levels of both glucose and sodium was stated. Meanwhile, after treatment, all haemato-biochemical and mineral parameters in G2 were completely improved. In conclusion, the Marbofloxacin drug impacted positively on animal health and in vitro, it completely overcomes calf Salmonella infection which in turn enhances the growth curves of these animals and considerable financial profits.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global threat that requires serious attention, particularly when it is developed against colistin, which is considered one of the ‘last resort’ antibiotics in the poultry industry. This study aimed to investigate the AMR profile of Enterobacteriaceae isolates from different poultry species, detect colistin resistance and investigate the existence of mcr genes in multi and extreme-resistant isolates. A total of 233 birds, chickens, ducks, turkeys, and quails, of various ages and breeds were collected from several localities of the Sharkia governorate and analyzed bacteriologically. The disc diffusion and E-test assays scrutinized the patterns of antibiotic, multidrug-resistant (MDR), and colistin resistance. The PCR assay was carried out to detect the mcr variants. Bacteriological examination revealed the incidence of 42.3% (99/233) of different Enterobacteriaceae members with a high predominance of E. coli, Salmonella, and Klebsiella species. Disc diffusion findings disclosed that 78.78% of isolates were resistant to colistin but E-test detected 19.19% only. Observed colistin resistance was strongly linked to the distribution of plasmid mcr-operons. The mcr 1, 2, 3, 4, and 7.1 genes were detected in 42.1, 63.15, 57.89, 52.63, and 47.36% of the phenotypic resistant isolates, and about 36.84% harbored at least four mcr clusters. However, the mcr5 gene was not discovered. The statistical assessment revealed a significant association between colistin resistance and MDR (p≤0.05). Moreover, there was a strong correlation between MCR-abundance and doxycycline, fosfomycin, beta-lactams, imipenem, and tobramycin resistances. In conclusion, this study highlights the alarming occurrence of colistin-resistant Enterobacteriaceae in various poultry aspects. An urgent strategy must be adopted to avert the spread of this phenomenon.

This study was performed to investigate the effect of toltrazuril and fresh crushed garlic on the treatment of broiler chicks infected with coccidiosis. A hundred one-day old unsexed Cobb broiler chicks were used in this study. Chicks are classified into 5 equal groups (n=20 birds/group), Gp (1) contained 20 healthy broilers and acted as a negative control. Birds of groups 2, 3, 4, and 5 were inoculated orally with 1x105 sporulated oocysts of Eimeria tenella (E. tenella) (field isolate) on the 14th day of age. Group 2 was experimentally infected, did not receive treatment and acted as a positive control. Group 3 was experimentally infected and treated with toltrazuril (1ml/liter drinking water) for two successive days. Group 4 was experimentally infected and treated with fresh crushed garlic (50 g/Kg ration) for 5 successive days. Group 5 was experimentally infected and treated with toltrazuril (1ml/liter drinking water) and fresh crushed garlic (25g/Kg ration) for 5 successive days. All birds were individually weighed at the beginning of the experiment, 1st and 10th days post treatment. Five birds from each group were sacrificed and two blood samples from each chick were collected for determination of erythrogram, MDA and CAT. Specimens from intestine were collected for histopathological study. The obtained results showed that the broilers infected with E. tenella had loss of appetite, depression, ruffled feathers, debility, dropped head and bloody diarrhea. Infected chicks with coccidia induced a significant decrease in the body weight, weight gain, RBCs, Hb, PCV%, platelets, and MCHC. Beside, an increase in FCR, MCV, MCH, and MDA assoiated with non-significant decrease in CAT was recorded. Infected birds treated with toltrazuril and garlic either alone or in a combination could recover birds from the clinical signs. Moreover, we recorded a significant increase in body weight, weight gain coupled with non significant increase in RBCs, Hb and PCV%, Platelet, MCHC and non-significant decrease in MCV and MCH compared with experimentally infected and non treated group (+ve control). Infected broilers with coccidiosiss induced pathological lesions in the small intestine represented as ruptured villi, and diffused haemorrhage. Treatment of the infeted birds with toltrazuril and garlic showed apparently normal mucosa, submucosa and muscularis mucosa with serosa. It could be concluded that the infected broiler chickens with E. tenella induced adverse effects in body performance, erythrogram and pathological changes. Treatment of infected chicks with toltrazuril and garlic led to disappearance of the clinical signs, improved body performane and pathological effects.

This experiment investigated the impact of chitosan (CHI), omega-3, and CHI as a delivery system for omega-3 on blood constituents, immunity, and antioxidant enzymes, in broiler chicks. Eighty (one-day-old) broiler chicks were assigned to four groups, each with 20 chicks (two replicates of 10 chicks each). The first group was a control group that did not receive any supplementation, while the other groups received different treatments, such as CHI or omega-3, either alone or in combination (over a peroid of 42 days). The results showed that all the supplemented groups had improved immune systems, as evidenced by higher white blood cell counts, lymphocyte percentages, and lower heterophil, and lymphocyte ratios. Additionally, the supplemented groups had higher levels of serum protein fractions, immunoglobulins, and antibody titer against ND and AI viruses. Furthermore, the study revealed that the supplemented groups had an increase in the bursa of Fabricius index, spleen index, and thymus index at both 28 and 42 days. The SOD and GSH serum levels also increased significantly in the supplemented groups. In conclusion, using CHI and omega-3 as a delivery system in broiler chicks had beneficial effects on blood constituents, immunity, and antioxidant enzymes, in broiler chicks.
