Macrophages are crucial immune cells that play a role in tissue repair and can exhibit pro- or anti-inflammatory behaviour based on environmental stimulation. Their functional phenotype can be affected by platelet-derived products as determined by those products’ composition. When the inflammatory response caused by implantation is excessive, it can lead to rejection of the implant. Therefore, a thorough evaluation of implant haemocompatibility is necessary to minimise undesirable consequences.

Broiler production is a promising sector to achieve food security and economic development in Egypt. It has a big share in animal protein supply which can relieve the problem of animal protein shortage. This study focused on estimating broiler farms profitability after the major financial changes that took place in Egypt, by studying how different housing systems and broiler breeds can affect farm production and profitability. Farm records and research questionnaires were used to collect data from broiler farms in two governorates (Al Sharkia and Ismailia). Different broiler breeds and housing systems were compared. Results showed that despite the high cost of production, broiler production is still a profitable business appealing for further private or governmental investments. The veterinary management, housing system and breed have a positive effect on the productivity. The highest production was obtained for Cobb breed and closed systems, whereas Ross breed achieved the highest net profit. Despite the challenges faced by producers, it was concluded that broiler farms in the study area are acting in the second stage of production where resources are probably used for the existing conditions.

Adrenaline is widely used drug to combat several conditions such as allergy and anaphylaxis. The current work was to investigate the renal and hepatic complications following adrenaline injection, in addition, the impact of Cleome (SAMWA) methanolic extract on adrenaline- induced renal and hepatic alterations. Twenty-four male Wister rats were divided equally into four groups; Normal control group received oral distilled water for 30 consecutive days and administered subcutaneous saline on the 31st and 32nd days. The Cleome extract (200 mg/kg) group received Cleome methanolic extract (200 mg/kg, P.O) for 30 consecutive days and administered subcutaneous saline on the 31st and 32nd days. The adrenaline group received distilled water orally for 30 consecutive days and administered subcutaneous adrenaline (2 mg/kg, s.c.) divided into two doses (1 mg/kg, s.c) each on the 31st and 32nd days. Cleome extract (200 mg/kg)/ adrenaline received Cleome methanolic extract (200 mg/kg, P. O) for 30 consecutive days and administered subcutaneous adrenaline (2 mg/kg, s.c.) divided into two doses (1 mg/kg, s.c) each on the 31st and 32nd days. Liver and kidney function biomarkers in addition to histopathological analyses were evaluated. Adrenaline caused alteration in liver and kidney function biomarkers without affecting the histological structure of the liver and the kidney. SAMWA methanolic extract pretreatment significantly decreased serum urea, uric acid, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine transaminase (ALT) and Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP). SAMWA ameliorated serum albumin reduction and total protein induced by adrenaline injection. SAMWA methanolic extract could protect liver and kidney of rats exposed to adrenaline.

Hair samples are one of the most important resources in the forensic analysis of crime scenes, often providing valuable information that can lead to the identification of a suspect or a victim. This study was conducted to HPTLC quantitative evaluation of Cannabis and Pregabalin residues in hair and serum. Thirty Wistar male rats were grouped into three groups; first group kept as negative control, second group (Cannabis group) administered Cannabis by gastric tube at a dose of 3 mg/kg b.wt.) and third group (Pregabalin group) administered Pregabalin by gastric tube at a dose of 30 mg/kg b.wt. daily for eight weeks. Results revealed that Cannabis and Pregabalin were both deposited in hair and serum compared with control groups. Using of hair samples is strongly recommended as routine test for pregabalin and cannabis abuse beside blood and urine tests.

Early detection of the reproductive problems is fundamental to improve reproductive efficiency of dairy farms. Therefore, the study was performed to compare between two treatment protocols of pyometra to optimize reproductive performance of dairy cows. Based on rectal and ultrasonographic examinations, 30 cows suffered from pyometra were divided into; group1 (n=10) control group, group2 (n=10): treated with two injections of prostaglandin (PGF2α) plus systemic ceftiofur and group3 (n=10): treated with systemic ceftiofur. Ultrasonographic examination was performed before and 11 days after treatment. Blood samples were collected for analysis of progesterone (P4) and estradiol 17-ß just before and 11 days after treatment. Reproductive data was obtained regarding the1st and 2nd service conception rate (the 1st SCR and the 2nd SCR), number of services/conception (s/c) and days open. Ultrasonographic examination of the uterine horns appeared to be filled with hyperechoic granules in the lumen. However, the uterine horns at 11 days after treatment decreased in size and hyperechoic granules disappeared. No significant differences in P4 and estradiol 17- ß before and 11days after treatment. In cows received PGF2α+ ceftiofur, estradiol 17- ß was lower before treatment than 11 days after treatment. Significant improvement in the reproductive performance was recorded in treated cows with PGF2α+ceftiofur that manifested by marked increase in SCR and S/C as well as decrease in days open as compared with treated cows with ceftiofur only. It was concluded that double PGF2α injection+systemic ceftiofur is the best protocol to control pyometra that was pronounced by enhancement of reproductive performance in dairy cows.

A high-fat diet (HFD) is characterized by an excessive intake of dietary fats, while often being deficient in essential nutrients and fiber. Studies in animal models have consistently demonstrated that high-fat diets can lead to significant elevation of weight gain, body organs and biochemical parameters. The present research aimed to clarify the adverse physiological consequences of HFD on female rats. The present study was performed on 12 female rats that were divided to equal groups. Group I fed normal basal diet and group II fed HFD for 12 months. The body weight and gain, relative organs weight as well as abdominal fat mass were recorded. Hematological parameters, lipid profile, liver and kidney functions and Heart fatty acid binding protein (H-FABP) were determined. Also, histopathology for liver, kidney and heart were performed. Electrocardiography (ECG) was performed. The body weight, weight gain, relative organs weight and abdominal fat mass were significantly increased in group II than group I. Hematological parameters, lipid profile, liver and kidney functions, H-FABP and ECG as well as histopathology were deteriorated in group II than group I. The findings revealed that prolonged consumption of a high-fat diet resulted in significant physiological perturbations. Understanding the intricate interactions between high-fat diets, body weight, body organs and biochemical parameters is essential for devising effective prevention and treatment strategies for obesity and related metabolic disorders.

Obesity is a global public health issue. It is associated with a spectrum of liver abnormalities, like nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Vitamin D3 on light microscopic changes in the liver, as well as hematology and some liver enzymes in experimentally overweight albino rats. Five groups of thirty-five male albino rats were formed. For three months, Control (C) group received a standard laboratory diet. Corn oil (CO) group received normal balanced diet and given orally 20 mg/kg corn oil daily. Vitamin D (D) group received normal balanced diet and orally treated daily with 5000 IU/kg of vitamin D3. Overweight (OW) group rats received high caloric diet. Overweight/ vitamin D (OWD) group received high caloric diet and treated with oral vitamin D3 5000 IU/kg daily. Liver weights of animals were recorded, blood samples for hematology, some liver functions, catalase (CAT) and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) were collected. Liver samples were fixed in 10% formal saline then stained by H&E for histological examination. OW group had significantly higher liver weights, and liver function than CO group. Histologically, there was an increase of fatty degeneration in the OW group. However, OWD group was lower in all the measured and examined liver parameters than that of CO group in this study vitamin D3 supplement could ameliorate the abnormal changes in the hepatocytes induced by obesity.
