Polioencephalomyelitis in pigs experimentally infected with porcine enterovirus isolated in Korea, 1; histopathological observations
1985
Shin, T.K. (Chungnam National Univ., Taejon (Korea R.). Coll. of Medicine) | Lee, C.S. (Kyongbuk National Univ., Taegu (Korea R.))
A total of 10 colostrum-deprived pigs (1 or 2-day-old) and 6 pigs 35-day-old), which had been raised by natural maternal nursing, were used to study the pathogenicity of the porcine enteroviruses by the intracerebral and intramuscular routes of inoculation, which the enterovirus were isolated from the diseased pigs in Korea. The porcine enteroviruses produced an identical polioencephalomyelitis in colostrum-deprived pigs and 35-day-old pigs, which manifested clinical signs and histological changes. Clinically it was characterized by incoordination, rise in rectal temperature, ataxia, flaccid paralysis in all the experimental groups

1985
Park, B.K. | Jeon, Y.S. | Lee, Y.S. (Seoul National Univ., Suwon (Korea R.). Coll. of Veteinary Medicine) | Rhee, Y.O. (Rural Development Administration, Anyang (Korea R.). Veterinary Research Inst.)
Effects of binary ethylenimine (BEI) treatment on the inactivation of infectivity and hemagglutinin of Newcastle disease virus (NDV) were studied in comparison with those of formalin treatment. Immune responses of chickens vaccinated with BEI- inactivated NDV vaccines were also investigated. Complete loss of infectivity of NDV (BI) was observed at 3, 7, and 24 hrs after the treatment at 37 deg C with BEI concentrations of 0.01M, 0.005M and 0.001M, respectively

Lee, J.H. | Lee, B.W. (Chonnam National Univ., Kwangju (Korea R.)) | Lee, S.H. (Gongioo National Junior Coll., Gongioo (Korea R.))
This study was conducted in order to observe the changes in cellular associations of seminiferous tubules from 8 to 20 weeks of age and to obtain the cycle and relative duration of the seminiferous epithelia from 24 to 32 weeks of age. Twenty-eight Korean native male goats were used in the experiment and divided into 7 groups, consisting of 4 goats each, with four weeks intervals from 8 to 32 weeks of age

1985
Kim, M.C. (Yonsei Univ., Seoul (Korea R.). Inst. of Agricultural Development)
Incidence of foot disease of Korean native cattle (231 cases) and Holstein (310 cases) in slaughter house was observed from Jul to Aug, 1984. Incidence rate of foot disease was 9.09%, 12.90% and 11. 27% for Korean native cattle, Holstein and total respectively. Chronic necrotic pododermatitis showed the highest incidence among all foot disease and its incidence rate was 6.47% in all cattle observed

1985
Kim, M.C. (Yonsei Univ., Seoul (Korea R.). Inst. of Agricultural Development) | Kim, C.G. (Tongil Wild Animal Clinic and Hospital (Korea R.))
This study was performed to evaluate the effect of succinylcholine chloride as a muscular relaxant deers. Succinylcholine chloride was administered for the harvesting of velvet antler to 62 sika deers which were farmed in the suburb of Seoul, Korea [R.]. The more the dose of succinylcholine the earlier the time to immobilization and the slower the time to recover (p 0.05). The optimal intramuscular dose of succinylcholine was found to be 0.11-0.14 mg per kg of body weight for sika deer

1985
Park, J.H. (Korea Advanced Inst. of Science and Technology, Seoul (Korea R.)) | Kim, C.S. (Tankook Univ., Seoul (Korea R.))
Nickel toxicity and interactions of nickel with zinc, copper and lead were studied in growing chicks fed supplement diet. Feed intake and growth rate of the chick were reduced by 250 mg nickel as a sulfate salt per kg of feed. The toxicity of nickel was decreased by zinc or copper supplementation, but not lead. High nickel feed increased nickel level in kidney and decreased zinc levels in tibia and plasma. However, low zinc levels in tibia and in plasma were reversed by zinc supplementation. Hemoglobin, packed cell volume, and aortic elastin content were increased in chicks fed nickel

1985
Kim, J.B. | Mah, J.S. (Seoul National Univ., Suwon (Korea R.). Coll. of Veterinary Medicine)
Salmonella pullorum strain W was serially passaged on the brain heart infusion agar containing acridine orange (AO) as a concentration of 100 mcg/ml. S. pullorum A060 and S. pullorum A0150, which were subcultured 60 and 150 passages on AO media, were examined for permeability barrier function of the cell wall. A060 and A0150 were appeared to be decreased in susceptibility against hydrophobic substances such as crystal violet, chloramphenicol and rifamycin, which might be resulted from the changes of permeability barrier function of the cell

Yeo, S.G. | Cho, H.J. (Kyongsang National Univ., Chinju (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine) | Choi, W.P. (Kyongbuk National Univ., Taegu (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine)
The present studies were conducted to determine the causative agent of dermatophytosis occurred in two pigs from a farm in Sachun, Gyeongnam province in Korea. Brownish or greyish white crusty lesions and partial loss of hairs in these lesions were observed on the trunk of the pigs but no alopecia and pruritus were observed. Direct microscopic and cultural examination were performed for the hairs and crusts from skin lesions and the causative agent was identified as Microsporum nanum

Kim, S.H. (Korea of Chemical Inst., Seoul (Korea R.)) | Huh, R.S. | Park, H.K. | Do, J.C. | Lee, Y.H. (Kyongbuk National Univ., Taegu (Korea R.))
This study was attempted to verify the mechanisms of RBC survival time shortened with vitamin E deficient and decrement of phospholipid concentrations by administration of iron. The concentration of iron in basal ration (group A and group B) was 40 mg/kg of feed, and the final concentrations of iron in the Fe (OH)3 supplemented-rations (group C and group D) were 13,496 mg/kg and 26,973 mg/kg, respectively

1985
Lee, C.G. | Park, Y.J. (Chonnam National Univ., Kwangju (Korea R.))
Fecal samples from beef and dairy calves less than 12-month-old of Chonnam area were examined for coccidial oocysts. The percentages of cattle and coccidian species found were: Eimeria alabamensis, 9.4; E. auburnensis, 12.5; E. bovis, 29.9; E. brasiliensis, 1.5; E. bukidnonensis, 2.1; E. canadensis, 10.4; E. cylindrica, 7.5; E. ellipsoidalis, 11.5; E. pellita, 1.7; E. subspherica, 10.4; E. wyomingensis, 2.9; and E. zuernii, 22.5. Fifty five percent of the fecal samples from 521 calves were positive for oocysts, and clinical coccidiosis was not found in any of these calves. The number of species in positive samples ranged from 1 to 7
