Purpose. To determine the drought resistance of five millet varieties (ʻOmriyaneʼ, ʻKharkivske 57ʼ, ʻKonstantinovskeʼ, ʻIR 5ʼ, ʻSlobozhanskeʼ) using PEG 6000 as osmotic stress. Methods. To obtain the effect of drought, five concentrations of PEG 6000 solutions were used: 0.0% (control), 11.5%, 15.3%, 19.6%, 23.5% and 28.9%, which corresponds to 0.0, 115, 153, 196, 235 and 289 g of solute in 1000 ml of distilled water or 0.0, -1.9, - 3.1, - 4.8, - 6.6 and - 9.7 bar. Results. Osmotic stress strongly suppressed the germination of millet seeds at -3.1 bars (46.8%) and at -4.8 bars (28.66%) on the third day, but on the sixth day the number of germinated seeds increased to 92.8% and 84.0% respectively. The millet genotypes of differed significantly in the percentage of germination at various concentrations of the PEG 6000 osmotic solution. The minimum germination capacity was observed in variety Omriyane at -3.1, - 4.8, - 6.6 bars. ʻIR 5ʼ, ʻKonstantinovskeʼ and ʻKharkivske 57ʼ showed higher germination potential at the different concentrations of water stress. A decrease in root elongation in all genotypes compared to control was observed in -1.9 bars osmotic stress and then at -3.1 and -4.8 bars of osmotic stress the root length had the same value from 6.6 mm to 13.5 mm on the 3d day and from 25.3 mm to 34.7 mm on the 6th day. Variety ʻSlobozhanskeʼ showed higher mean root length at -3.1 and -4.8 bars of water stress induced by PEG on the 3d day (8,7 mm-12,5 mm) and on the 6th day (35.7 mm-32.3 mm). It is not observed shoot of millet at -9.7 bars on the 3d and on the 6th days. ʻKharkivske 57ʼ, ʻIR 5ʼ, ʻSlobozhanskeʼ showed higher individual shoot length of 23.1 mm, 25.5 mm, 25.6 mm, respectively at -4.8 bars of PEG 6000 on the 6th day. At -6.6 bars of osmotic stress ʻKonstantinоvskeʼ and ʻSlobozhanskeʼ had lowest root length/shoot length ratio 2.58 and 2.61, respectively. Variety ʻOmriyaneʼ (3.54) and ʻIR 5ʼ (3.31) had the maximum deviation from unity (3.54 and 3.31, respectively). Conclusions. Genotypes' ʻKonstantinоvskeʼ and ʻSlobozhanskeʼ, which showed a high level of drought resistance, were selected as a result of this study in breeding for drought resistance. Variety ʻIR 5ʼ, ʻKonstantinovskeʼ and ʻKharkivske 57ʼ were characterized highest seed germination percentage at the different water stress.

Purpose. To analyse biochemical and economic characters of new tomato varieties adapted to the conditions of the south of Ukraine. Methods. Field study, laboratory testing, statistical analysis. Results. Intraspecific hybridization method followed by individual selection was used to create such new tomato varieties as ‘Naddnіprianskyi 1’, ‘Inguletskyi’, ‘Kimmeriiets’, ‘Sarmat’, ‘Taim’, ‘Legin’, ‘Kumach’ adapted to the conditions of the south, which are characterized by high yielding (69,2–78,0 t/ha), fruit quality (content of soluble dry matter 5,65–5,92%), drought (7,2–8,1 points) and heat (70,4–88,2%) resistance. All varieties are of intensive type, they require advanced agricultural technology, irrigation. Conclusions. New tomato varieties, namely ‘Naddnіprianskyi 1’, ‘Inguletskyi’, ‘Kimmeriiets’, ‘Sarmat’, ‘Taim’, ‘Legin’, ‘Kumach’ were entered in the State register of plant varieties suitable for dissemination in Ukraine. They are recommended for outdoor growing in the Steppe and Forest-Steppe zones of Ukraine.

Мета. Розглянути етапи створення та характеристику нового сорту ‘Горлиця миронівська’ за біологічними властивостями та господарсько-цінними ознаками. Методи. Польовий, математично-статистичний. Результати. Сорт створено методом гібридизації за схрещування сортів ‘Деметра’ та ‘Кримка одеська’. Генеалогія сорту включає генотипи пшениць Західної Європи ‘NS-2699’ (Югославія), ‘Sadovo syper’ (Болгарія), ‘MV-103’ (Угорщина) та ‘Московская 60’ (Росія), а також селекції Миронівського інституту пшениці імені В. М. Ремесла – ‘Лютесценс 10795’ (синонім сорту ‘Миронівська 27’). Різновид сорту – еритроспермум. Дослідженнями в МІП та закладах Українського інституту експертизи сортів рослин встановлено, що сорт ‘Горлиця миронівська’ є стійким проти вилягання, осипання та посухи. За роки досліджень він проявив стійкість проти борошнистої роси та бурої іржі (8,3–8,7 бала), кореневих гнилей (8,1–8,4 бала) та фузаріозу колосу (8,1–8,7 бала). Потенціал продуктивності сорту високий – 10,6–10,9 т/га. За показниками якості зерна – це цінна пшениця. Кращими попередниками за вирощування сорту є кукурудза на силос, сидеральний пар (гірчиця) та горох. За сівби 25 вересня та 5 жовтня сорт виявив вагомі результати та найбільші переваги по всіх попередниках, крім кукурудзи на силос. Висновки. Встановлено, що сорт має ряд господарсько-цінних ознак і властивостей, завдяки яким він генетично здатний компенсувати високими врожаями затрати на його вирощування.

Оцінити стійкість колекційних зразків пшениці озимої за ознакою продуктивності (маса зерна з одного колоса), посухо-, жаростійкістю та стійкістю проти збудників хвороб (борошнистої роси, бурої іржі та піренофорозу). Виділити джерела комплексної стійкості культури із залученням їх до селекційних програм зі створення високопродуктивного та високоадаптивного вихідного матеріалу. Методи. Лабораторний, польовий, статистичний. Результати. Сортозразки пшениці озимої, які вирощували в колекційних розсадниках, за рівнем продуктивності та напрямом використання поділено на три групи. До них входило 136 сортів, із яких 33% селекції Інституту фізіології рослин і генетики НАН України (київської), 19% – південних регіонів України (південна селекція) та 42% – іноземної (західноєвропейської) селекції. За ознакою продуктивності в колекційному розсаднику найбільший пріоритет – 69% мають сорти київської селекції із середньою масою зерна з одного колоса 3,1–4,0 г. Південні сорти мають найвищу посухостійкість у рангу середньостійкі (25,0%), вище середнього (17,9%) та високостійкі (10,7%). Сорти київської селекції володіють найвищим показником у рангу середньо та вище середньої жаростійкості – 25,5%. За ураженням збудниками хвороб західноєвропейські сорти мають найбільший відсоток вище середньої стійкості проти борошнистої роси та піренофорозу – 43%. Сорти київської та південної селекції стабільно середньостійкі проти збудників трьох хвороб – 53–82%. Висновки. Виділено джерела комплексної стійкості пшениці озимої до несприятливих чинників довкілля та збудників хвороб (борошниста роса, бура іржа та жовта плямистість листків) із сортів селекції ІФРіГ НАНУ: ‘Наталка’, ‘Переяславка’, ‘Подолянка’, ‘Даринка Київська’, ‘Збруч’, ‘Київська остиста’, ‘Смуглянка’, ‘Снігурка’ та ‘Фаворитка’. Досліджені сорти залучені до селекційних програм зі створення високопродуктивного та високоадаптивного вихідного матеріалу пшениці озимої.

Purpose. To study the complex resistance of winter wheat collection using productivity index – total weight of all grains in one ear; drought and heat resistances; resistance to pathogens – powdery mildew, brown rust and pyrenophorosis (tan spot). To select plants with complex resistance for breeding programs aimed to create a high-yielding and highly adaptable source material. Methods. Field, laboratory and statistical. Results. The winter wheat varieties were divided into 3 groups according to the level of productivity and the way of use. They included 136 varieties, 33% of which were from Institute of Plant Physiology and Genetics, NAS of Ukraine (Kyiv breeding), 19% from the southern regions of Ukraine (south-Ukrainian breeding), and 42% from the foreign collection (West European breeding). On the basis of productivity, the highest priority in 69% belongs to Kyiv breeding varieties with grain weight within 3.1–4.0 g/ear. South-Ukrainian breeding varieties are of highest drought tolerance at the rank ‘medium-resistant’ – 25.0%, at the rank ‘higher than medium-resistant’ – 17.9% and ‘highly resistant’ – 10.7%. Varieties of Kyiv breeding have the highest percentage at the rank of ‘medium heat resistant’ and the ‘heat resistant’ – 25.5%. According to pathogenic resistance, Western European breeding varieties have the highest percentage of the resistance to powdery mildew and pyrenophorosis at the rank ‘higher than medium resistant’ – 43%. Varieties of Kyiv and south-Ukrainian breeding have the steadily medium resistance to diseases of three pathogens within 53–82 %. Conclusions. The sources of complex resistance of winter wheat to the unfavorable environmental factors and pathogen diseases (mildew, brown rust and pyrenophorosis) were identified – ‘Natalka’, ‘Pereiaslavka’, ‘Podolianka’, ‘Darynka Kyivska’, ‘Zbruch’, ‘Kyivska ostysta’, ‘Smuh­lianka’, ‘Snihurka’ and ‘Favorytka’ varieties. Studied varieties were involved to the breeding programs on creation of highly productive and highly adaptive winter wheat. | Мета. Выделить источники комплексной устойчивости культуры с привлечением их в селекционные программы по созданию высокопродуктивного и высокоадаптивного исходного материала.Методы. Лабораторный, полевой, статистический.Результаты. Сортообразцы озимой пшеницы, которые выращивали в коллекционных питомниках, по уровню продуктивности и направлению использования разделены на три группы. К ним входило 136 сортов, из которых 33% селекции Института физиологии растений и генетики (ИФРиГ) НАН Украины (киевской), 19% – южных регионов Украины (южная селекция) и 42% – иностранной (западноевропейской) селекции. По признаку продуктивности в коллекционном питомнике наибольший приоритет – 69% имеют сорта киевской селекции со средней массой зерна с одного колоса 3,1–4,0 г. Южные сорта имеют самую высокую засухоустойчивость в ранге среднеустойчивые (25,0%), выше среднего (17,9%) и высокоустойчивые (10,7%). Сорта киевской селекции обладают высоким показателем в ранге средне и выше средней жаростойкости – 25,5%. По поражению возбудителями болезней западноевропейские сорта имеют наибольший процент выше средней устойчивости к мучнистой росе и пиренофорозу – 43%. Сорта киевской и южной селекции стабильно среднеустойчивые к возбудителям трех болезней – 53–82%.Выводы. Выделены источники комплексной устойчивости пшеницы озимой к неблагоприятным факторам окружающей среды и возбудителям болезней (мучнистая роса, бурая ржавчина и желтая пятнистость листьев) из сортов селекции ИФРиГ НАНУ: ‘Наталка’, ‘Переяславка’, ‘Подолянка’, ‘Даринка Київська’, ‘Збруч’, ‘Київська остиста’, ‘Смуглянка’, ‘Снігурка’ и ‘Фаворитка’. Исследованные сорта привлечены в селекционные программы по созданию высокопродуктивного и высокоадаптивного исходного материала озимой пшеницы

Purpose. To evaluate and select hybrids, varieties of the parental nursery of the breeding process, biotechnological lines and wild species of potato for physiological parameters of drought resistance. Methods. Physiological and biochemical, selection ones, statistical data processing. Results. The data is given concerning the evaluation of the water retaining and water regeneration capacity of potato leaves of promising hybrids of competitive and ecological test, varieties of the parental nursery, biotechnological lines and wild species and their integral indicator of drought resistance. The studied samples were grown in the nurseries of field selection crop rotation. Accordingly, the initial material with the highest drought resistance value has been defined. Among the evaluated material, eight hybrids of the competitive and ecological test have been selected (drought resistance coefficient was ranging from 59.4% to 84.8%) and five biotechnological lines of ‘Hlazurna’ and ‘Dorohin’ varieties (drought resistance coefficient was in the range of 55.5% to 67.5%). As for wild species, almost half of the samples (47.8%) were characterized by a high coefficient of drought resistance (from 55 to 78%). Selected samples with high values of drought resistance were recommended to use as a source and drought resistance donors when creating new potato varieties. Conclusions. The initial potato material (hybrids, varieties, biotechnological lines and wild species) with high values of drought resistance (55.0–84.8%) has been selected. These samples are recommended to use in the breeding process when creating new drought resistance potato varieties.

Purpose. Assessing stability of yield formation of complex-valued varieties and lines of spring triticale under conditions and of different years of their growing. Identifying the best genotypes for yield potential, plasticity and stability. Methods. Ontogenetic, statistical and mathematical analyses. Results. Adaptive capacity and breeding value of spring triticale varieties and lines was established. Methods of breeding and parentage of the best samples were analyzed. Comparison of yields under conditions in of different years of growing allowed to identify genotypes with high yield potential – ‘ЯТХ 38-14’, ‘ЯТХ 61-14’, ‘ЯТХ 62-14’, with stable yields – ‘ЯТХ 17-14’, ‘Boryviter kharkivskyi’, ‘ЯТХ 43-14’, ‘Gusar kharkivskyi’, drought resistance ones – ‘ЯТХ 37-14’, ‘ЯТХ 43-14’, ‘ЯТХ-64-14’. The genotypes ‘Lebіd kharkіvskyi’, ‘ЯТХ 38-14’, ‘ЯТХ 62-14’ appeared to be more plastic. These samples may be used of hybridization to improve yield. Conclusions. The most promising to production and breeding are the lines ‘ЯТХ 17-14’, ‘ЯТХ 64-14’, ‘ЯТХ 37-14’, ‘ЯТХ 43-14’ (their average yield 4,27–4,48 t/ha) and varieties ‘Zlit kharkivskyi’, ‘Boryviter kharkivskyi’, ‘Gusar kharkivskyi’, ‘Darkhliba kharkivskyi’, which have high adaptive capacity combined with high productivity. They are valuable for use as a starting material in breeding for adaptability.

Purpose. Analysis of hexaploid triticale breeding process for drought resistance through the use of systemic ecological tests in contrasting conditions. Methods. Dialectical, field, laboratory and statistical ones. Results. Medium-grown (‘Amos’, ‘Nikanor’, ‘Rarytet’, ‘Yaroslava’) and low-stem (‘HAD 69’, ‘HAD 86’, ‘HAD 110’, ‘Timofei’) multiline varieties of winter and alternate hexaploid triticale were developed with higher adaptability, potential yield of 9–12 tons per ha and high bread-making properties. Among the most drought resistant genotypes, such varieties as ‘Amos’, ‘Buket’, ‘Harne’, ‘Markiian’, ‘Kharroza’, ‘Shalanda’, ‘Nicanor’ and ‘Yaroslava’ showed high values of yield, plasticity and stability. Conclusions. The use of interspecific hybridization instead of intergeneric one in hexaploid triticale breeding, together with systemic testing of the hybrid material in contrasting agro-ecological zones, ensured the creation of multiline competitive varieties with an optimal combination of yield and adaptive properties
