The mapping of the Permanent Preservation Areas (PPAs) of the municipal district of Grossos, RN, located in a region with avowed tourist potential, because of their dunes, salt marsh and archeological ranch. Interesting for planned real estate activity. The objective of this work was the necessity to produce cartographic documents, orientated by the actual legislation, that serve as base for to decide as occupy the surface of municipal district. The maps, at the 1:100,000 scale, with delimitation of the PPAs were produced aided by SIG, satellite image colored and vectorial file. The conclusions were good, principally the next: the PPAs occupy 46,8% of the surface of the municipal district, limiting the use and soil occupation, already the PPA of dunes occupy an area 25% of the municipal surface.

The lack of adequate management practices favors the reduction of the soil organic matter and fertility. The broad bean (Phaseolus lunatus) is a leguminous plant appropriate to human and animal feeding that is also cultivated to biomass production and soil incorporation as green manure. The objective of this work was to evaluate the rate of decomposition of broad bean leaves. Broad bean leaves (10 g) in nylon bags were set on the surface or 15 cm deep in the soil and leaf decomposition were evaluated every 15 days from October to December 2002, with the 2 x 5 factorial treatments, replicated three times and randomly assigned to the plots according to a completely random design. Buried leaves showed higher decomposition rate (96.7%) at day 75, while decomposition rate was higher (65.2%) at day 60 when the leaves were on the surface of the soil. Thus, as a result it is concluded that broad bean plants can be recommended for green manuring, being decomposed faster when incorporate to the soil.

The present research describes the defensive behavior of Haplostegus nigricrus Conde (Hymenoptera: Pergidae) larvae exposed to the stink bug predators Podisus nigrispinus (Dallas), Supputius cincticeps (Stal) e Brontocoris tabidus (Signoret) (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae). The main defensive strategy of H. nigricrus seems to be the regurgitation of toxic compounds and the continuous exhibition by the mouth, because all predators died until 24 hours after the direct contact. Only B. tabidus reached the adult phase with H. nigricus larvae as diet what suggests the higher tolerance and hability for detoxication of chemical compounds from that Symphyta.

The quality of irrigation water is one of the environmental factors that can affect the initial growth of the culture of melon. This study aimed to evaluate the emergence of seedlings of melon, hybrids Goldex and Vereda in different levels of salinity of irrigation water. The study was carried out at the Seed Analysis Laboratory of the Department of Crop Science of the UFERSA, Mossoró, RN, between February and April 2007. The treatments were organized in a completely randomized design in factorial scheme 2 x 6 (two hybrids of melon plant Goldex and Vereda, and six levels of electrical conductivity of irrigation water: 0,45; 1,30; 2,15; 3,00; 3,85; 4,70 dS m-1), with four replications. Evaluation of speed of emergence-index, height of the aerial part of the seedling, dry mass of the aerial part of the seedling and seedling emergence. The salinity interfered in all parameters measured, and that as of 2.5 dS m-1 were more harmful to the hybrid Goldex that Vereda.

The objective of evaluating the effect of salinity water irrigation of the for vegetative phase of castor culture, it was developed a greenhouse experiment in the Ciências Ambientais Department of UFERSA. The experimental delineating used was entirely randomized with six treatments and three replications. The soil utilized was eutrofic Redyellow Latossol and the treatment was six waters with different salinity levels (0,5; 1,0; 1,5; 2,0; 2,5; 3,0 dS·m-1). The cropping was carried out with the BRS 149-Nordestina variety. The variables evaluated were: chemical-physical characteristics of the soil (pH, Electrical Conductivity, Ca, Mg e Na), and in the plant, the plant height, stalk diameter, fresh and dry matter, and leaf area. It was observed that soil undergo had the influence of the waters utilized: the pH, Electrical Conductivity and changeable Na with the water salinity. With the increase of the salinity, the plant development decreased, with increased of salinity.

The work had as objective to evaluate the germination of seeds of sugar apple (Annona squamosa L.), submitted the treatments daily pre-germinative, under controlled conditions. One evaluated the percentage of germination and the index of germination speed (IVG), using the delineation entirely casualizado with four repetitions of 25 seeds, in factorial project 2x5, being the factor scarification mechanics in two levels (with and without scarification) and factor imbibition in five levels: water, Stimulate® the 20 mL L-1, acid giberélico 50 and 750 GA3 mg L-1, all absorbing for 12 hours, and a treatment without imbibition. The scarification mechanics was carried through with sandpaper for wood. The results had shown that the scarification mechanics separately, did not make possible the overcoming of the dormancy in seeds of sugar apple. Significant alterations with the use of the sandpaper had been verified with the embebição of seeds scarification in water and Stimulate®, with increases of 22 and 43 %, respectively. The scarification with sandpaper revealed unnecessary with the imbibitions of the seeds in 750 dosages of 50 and mg L- 1 of acid gibberellic, with percentage of germination varying of 83 and 98%. The Stimulate®, in the used concentration, was inferior to the GA3 use, providing, however, increase of 43 % in relation to the germination of scarification seeds, without imbibitions the biggest indices of germination speed had been verified in the treatments with GA3, observing itself rise of the values with the increase of the dosage of acid gibberellic, and also with the use of the sandpaper.
