El parámetro de capacidad de retención de agua en el suelo (CRA) es un modelo de base física ampliamente utilizado por técnicos forestales e investigadores en ecología forestal del territorio español, como uno de los factores estimadores de las disponibilidades de agua para las plantas y, por ende, de la calidad de estación. Dentro del proyecto Caracterización de suelos forestales de la provincia de Huelva se han apreciado una serie de anomalías en cuanto a los valores obtenidos para el parámetro CRA, especialmente en lo referente a la influencia de la pendiente sobre el modelo para su cálculo, así como en la determinación del agua disponible para la vegetación, en relación a la reserva total. Este trabajo plantea una sencilla modificación del modelo que permite obtener valores de capacidad de retención de agua más acordes con la calidad de la estación, en los terrenos forestales de fuerte pendiente, y también extiende el modelo al cálculo de la máxima reserva de agua disponible en el suelo. La bondad de estos parámetros se contrasta mediante el análisis de correlaciones frente a un índice de calidad de estación, con resultados satisfactorios. | In Spain, a physical model to estimate the soil water capacity, which is called the CRA parameter, was implemented by Gandullo (1985). This parameter is broadly used in forest management and forest ecology research in relationship with site index and soil quality variables. While running a soil mapping project in the southwest of Spain some problems related to the CRA model were detected, mainly related to the influence of slope on total soil water capacity, as well as the estimation of available water capacity. A simple correction of the model is proposed in this paper, as well as a complementary parameter for available water capacity. The quality of those new parameters is tested by means of correlation analysis against Site Index variable.

Knowledge of the soil water holding capacity, Wo, is essential to the regional evaluation of the soil water balance, but this information is generally not available. In this work we propose a methodology to produce a map of Wo in Andalusia, using pedotransfer functions and geostatistics. The Wo estimates are evaluated in terms of the average annual total runoff and actual evapotranspiration, obtained with a simple bucket water balance model. Comparison of the results with other work shows that the proposed methodology underestimates Wo on average by 45%. | La información sobre la capacidad de retención del agua en el suelo, Wo, es esencial para la evaluación regional del balance de agua, pero en general no se dispone de observaciones o estimaciones de este parámetro. En este trabajo se propone una metodología para elaborar un mapa de la Wo en Andalucía, empleando funciones de edafotransferencia y geoestadística. Las estimaciones de Wo son evaluadas en términos de la escorrentía total y la evapotranspiración real media anual, que se obtienen al aplicar un simple modelo para el balance de agua. Comparación de los resultados con otros estudios sugiere que la metodología propuesta subestima la Wo en un 45% de promedio.

Para a determinação do volume de água retido no solo e disponível às plantas, é imprescindível quantificar o teor de água do solo (TAS) na capacidade de campo (CC) e no ponto de murcha permanente (PMP). O objetivo deste trabalho foi comparar os valores do TAS na CC e no PMP determinados por distintos métodos. Utilizaram-se amostras de um Latossolo Vermelho. A CC foi obtida no campo com o método do perfil instantâneo e, no laboratório, com funis de placa porosa. O PMP foi determinado, em laboratório, como sendo o teor de água residual retida no potencial matricial de -1,5 MPa, em câmara de Richards e com medidor de potencial de ponto de orvalho WP4 PotentiaMeter. Para murcha das plantas, o TAS foi significativamente menor no método fisiológico que o determinado nas câmaras de Richards; entretanto, o teor de água do solo no PMP foi estatisticamente igual para a cultura do girassol e superior para o milho, quando comparado com aquele obtido pelo WP4. A água disponível diminuiu com o aumento na tensão para a estimativa da CC e com o método WP4, mas não diferiu do método fisiológico. Assim, o WP4 permitiu adequada estimativa do PMP e disponibilidade hídrica às plantas, em solo argiloso.<br>To estimate available soil water to plants it is necessary to measure field capacity (FC) and permanent wilting point (PWP). The objective of this study was to compare soil moisture at FC and PWP measured by different methods. The soil used was a tropical Oxisol (Haplorthox). The FC was measured under field conditions, using the internal drainage method and in laboratory using porous plate funnel. The PWP was quantified in laboratory as the soil moisture at -1.5 MPa matric potential measured by pressure plate apparatus (Richards chamber) and by WP4 dewpoint Potentia Meter. The physiological PWP was measured using corn and sunflower plants, when they had three leaf pairs and showed irreversible wilting. The soil moisture for PWP based on the physiological method was smaller than soil moisture measured with the pressure plate apparatus; however, soil moisture for sunflower wilting was similar while for corn it was greater than that obtained with the WP4. The available water decreased with increase in water tension considered for estimating FC and with the WP4 method, but similar to one quantified with the physiological method. Thus, the WP4 allowed for adequate estimation of PWP and available water to plants in a clay soil.

The results indicate the 57.89% of chayote producers in both municipalities, have allowed to control weeds in their crops, and being a higher proportion represented by Villaflores. Given these concerns, they prefer to control weeds throughout traditional methods, basically using mattocks with frequencies of 15 to 30 days after sowing or two to four times per cycle of crop production. Both pest and diseases are mainly controlled throughout chemical methods application. A preference to perform control among periods of higher rainfall or drought is not distinguished. A considerable percentage, which reaches 44% of the interviewed population among both municipalities, report they do not need to control pests and crop diseases.

A considerable percentage, which reaches 44% of the interviewed population among both municipalities, report they do not need to control pests and crop diseases. | Resumen La investigación se llevó a cabo en los municipios de Villaflores y Villa Corzo en el estado de Chiapas, a través de un enfoque etno-agronómico, se diseñaron y aplicaron entrevistas semiestructuradas a productores de chayote seleccionados por rutas aleatorias. Los resultados indican que el 57.89% de los productores de chayote de ambos municipios controlan las malezas en sus plantaciones, siendo mayor la proporción en Villaflores. Para controlar las malezas prefieren usar métodos culturales, fundamentalmente con la ayuda de coas o azadones y con frecuencias de 15 a 30 días después de la siembra o de dos a cuatro veces por ciclo de producción del cultivo. Las plagas y enfermedades se controlar mayoritariamente a través de métodos químicos, sobre todo en Villaflores durante la fase de fructificación. No se distingue una preferencia a realizar el control entre las épocas de mayores precipitaciones o durante la sequía. Un porcentaje considerable, que llega a alcanzar 44% del total de la población entrevistada entre ambos municipios, refieren que no necesitan controlar las plagas y enfermedades del cultivo.

As 70% of potable water on the planet is used in agriculture, alternatives are needed to reduce itsconsumption and optimize the use of water for cultivation. Hydrogels are hydro polymers capable of absorbinglarge quantities of water and have been used as an alternative to improve water storage in areas of shortage.This study aimed to assess the use of different doses of hydrogels for water storage in soil, emphasizing theadvantages and disadvantages of each dose. The doses of the hydrogel used were (4, 8 and 12 g per pot) to analysethe efficiency of the product compared to the control, depending on the availability of moisture and increase inelectrical conductivity. These variables were determined with the use of time-domain reflectometer (TDR) probe.The dose of 4 g per pot was more viable, compared to the manufacturer’s recommendation (8 g per hole, underfield conditions), because it presented similar moisture content, lower electrical conductivity and lower cost.The higher dose (12 g per pot) caused swelling of the soil resulting in loss of product and soil and possible rootstrangulation. | Frente ao uso de 70% de água potável do planeta que a agricultura consome, alternativas são necessáriaspara reduzir o consumo e otimizar o uso da água durante o cultivo. Os hidrogeis são polímeros hidrorretentorescapazes de absorver grande quantidade de água e estão sendo utilizados como alternativa viável para melhoraro armazenamento de água em áreas de escassez. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a utilização dediferentes dosagens de hidrogel no armazenamento de água no solo destacando-se as vantagens e desvantagensde cada dosagem. Utilizaram-se três diferentes dosagens do hidrogel (4, 8 e 12 g por vaso com 8 kg de solo)permitindo analisar a eficiência do produto comparado à testemunha em função da disponibilidade de águae do aumento da condutividade elétrica do solo. Essas variáveis foram determinadas com o uso de sondas dereflectometria no domínio do tempo (TDR). A dosagem de 4 g por vaso mostrou-se viável pois comparada àrecomendação do fabricante (8 g por cova, em condições de campo), apresentou teor de água semelhante, menorcondutividade elétrica do solo e menor custo de implantação. A maior dosagem (12 g por vaso) causou inchaço dosolo acarretando em perda do produto, solo e possível estrangulamento radicular.
