The influence of different concentration of nitrogen in nutrient solution on plant growth and nitrate accumulation in aeroponically grown lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.)
2002
Kacjan Marsic, N. | Osvald, J. (Lubiana Univ. (Slovenia). Inst. for Growing, Viticulture and Vegetable Growing)))
The lettuce plants cv Vanity were grown in aeroponics using four different amounts of nitrogen in nutrient solutions. Differences among averages of fresh shoot weights were statistically significant in all three experiments. In the first experiment, the maximum final fresh weight average was 999.0 g in treatment 8 mM. In the second experiment, the largest amount of nitrogen, 12 mM NO3-N, significantly (P0.05) increased the fresh shoot weight of lettuce plants. The low level of nitrate in the nutrient solution (4 mM NO3-N) significantly (P0.05) increased the fresh weight of the final roots compared to the level of nitrate in standard nutrient solution (12 mM NO3-N). The highest NO3 concentration in lettuce leaves was recorded in plants grown in nutrient solutions with the highest NO3-N concentration (12 mM NO3-N). A low enough NO3 concentration was found in leaves of lettuce treated with nutrient solution with 4 mM NO3-N in both two experiments | [Piante di lattuga cv Vanity sono state allevate in coltura aeroponica utilizzando due quantita' diverse di azoto nelle soluzioni nutritive.

Antioxidants in selected olive oils from Slovene Istra [Slovenia]
2002
Butinar, B. (Institute for Mediterranean Agriculture and Olive Growing, Koper (Slovenia)) | Bucar-Miklavcic, M. | Calija, D.
The differences in antioxidants polyphenols (PfOH) and tocopherols (TOC) content of two major olive tree cultivars in Slovene Istra were examined, as well as the effects of extraction processes and storage conditions on PfOH and TOC content. Cultivar Leccino had bigger share in total TOC content, while cultivar Istrska Belica led in total PfOH. The PfOH and TOC content was higher in both cultivars when using the dual phase decanter extraction process. From the inadequate storage data (influence of light) it was concluded that oils pressed out of cultivar Istrska Belica were in better antioxidative shape compared to oils from Leccino cultivar.

Complete feeds (SK-16, SK-21) for growing and fattening pigs (SK-26, SK-31) have been formulated which include 4% and 3% (by weight) of PVS, respectively, instead of soya bean meal. Their feeding ensured higher productivity of pigs by 6,0% at lower feed expenses by 3,5%. The cost of these complete feed is 4,5% lower than standard ones
