Uno de los principales trabajos emprendidos por este Centro, con preferente atención, consiste en el cultivo de nuevas variedades de arroz que puedan substituir ventajosamente a las del país. Con la debida autorización establecimos un campo de experiencias en las marjales fronterizas de la Albufera, situadas en el término de Silla, al Sur de Valencia, distante 14 kilómetros de la ciudad, en tierra cedida por el entendido agricultor D. Vicente Monfort. El primer experimento realizado ha consistido en el cultivo de tres variedades de arroz japonés y uno del país.

The Franklin Arthur Coffman Collection consists of several artifacts obtained in the Philippines, including tools, a musical instrument, and decorative pieces. There are also several projectile points (arrowheads and a spear point) that were found on USDA property in Beltsville, Maryland. The items consist of the following: metal knives, musical instrument, farm implement, wooden spear shafts, brooms, other artifacts labeled from the Philippines (2.25 inch clay pot, 1914-1916; 1 inch diameter coin; 0.75 inch diameter ring labeled "Silver ring bought from native of Mt. Tibe Luzon P.I. 1915"; 3.5 inch woven basket with lid filled with sea shells); and artifacts labeled from Beltsville, Maryland (4 arrowheads, longest is 1.5 inch, labeled "from our nursery P.I. Station Beltsville Md So Farm near gate"; and spearhead 3.25 inch, labeled "one small spear from oat nursery Beltsville, Md. P.I. Station F.A.C.").

The USDA Small Fruit Improvement Programs Records contain the following: Donald H. Scott's strawberry, blueberry, and blackberry field notebooks (1950-1978) and work notes (1941-1970), Scott's and George M. Darrow's photographs for illustrations of USDA bulletins, and John Hull's blackberry records (1961-1969). Files from the office of Gene Galletta, including strawberry records (1953-1969), grape papers (1946-1967), correspondence files (1947-1972), and raspberry and blackberry files (1917-1952). Photographs, artwork, and negatives used for plates in various USDA publications (1949-1983), as well as drafts of publications and final copies of bulletins. Miscellaneous photographs, slides, and acetate and glass negatives of fruits (1914-1985). Both black-and-white and color images are present.
