Vink analysed the basic elements of farm management in Indonesian smallholdings. General principles of farm management were tested in an economic environment, where social conditions had a large impact. The amount of influence on the individual farm enterprise was discussed for the various peasant societies of the Indonesian archipelago. Thereafter the use and allocation was described of the factors of production: nature, labour and capital on the smallholders' farm. A summary was given of labour analyses, carried out in cultivation of sawah rice and other crops. The types of labour and the distribution of labour within the family were described. The farmer's land assets were discussed with reference to land tenure and the size of holdings. The intensity of farming was considered in an extensive analysis of the exploitation and use of natural resources in the 'ladang system'. Special attention was paid to type and quantity of agricultural investments by the peasant farmer.

Entre los riesgos de la producción naranjera en nuestro país, puede decirse que, en la actualidad, El que supone la contingencia de heladas es el más importante. En los últimos diez años han ocurrido tres heladas severas, y la mayor parte de ellos, en alguna zona, la helada ha producido daños. Desde Oliva y Gandía a la Plana de Castellón, salvo pequeñas partidas, no hay ningún distrito que esté absolutamente libre de los daños del frío. Si a la extensión de las plantaciones de naranjos en el último cuarto de siglo en localidades y partidas más expuestas a las heladas que la primitiva y antigua zona del cultivo del naranjo en España, o a la mayor frecuencia con que las bajas temperaturas se producen en los últimos inviernos según supone la opinión corriente de cosecheros y comerciantes, es achacable el que el riesgo de helada haya aumentado, implica una cuestión poco dilucidada.
