Efficacy of orchiectomy on canine perianal gland tumors
1994
Tomizawa, N. (Iwate Univ., Morioka (Japan). Faculty of Agriculture) | Okada, K. | Goryo, M. | Okada, K. | Hara, S.
Efficacy of orchiectomy on perianal gland tumors in 5 dogs was investigated. Affected dogs consisted of between 12 and 14 years of age and 3 mongrels, 1 Shetland sheepdog and 1 Pekingese. Their tumor size ranges from 2-30 mm in diameter. Four dogs out of 5 had multicentric lesions. All tumors accompanied with ulceration. No metastases in any dogs to regional lymph nodes or lungs were observed. After orchiectomy, complete disappearance of tumors was observed in 2 dogs, and softening and/or decrease in size of tumors was observed in 2 dogs. In another dog, the tumor did not respond to orchiectomy. Histopathologically, the tumors of two dogs were diagnosed as hepatoid cell adenoma. Since lydig cell tumor and seminoma was observed in the testes in 2 dogs, it was suggested that perianal gland tumors were concerned with male hormones. Though following observation was necessary to determine prognosis of the condition, it was considered that orchiectomy might be initial treatment for perianal gland tumors because relief of clinical signs and disappearance/reduction of tumors was observed by this treatment

1994

Three experiments were conducted in Sanpatong and Doi saket, Chiang Mai during December 1994 - March 1995. The objective of the study was to determine the efficacy of propaquizafop (2-isopropylideneamino-oxyethyl(R)-2-[4-(6-chloro-quinoxalin-2-yloxy]propionate) on annual grass weed control in garlic. The herbicide was applied as postemergence to garlic at 28-30 days after planting with knapsack sprayer in the spray volume 80 liters/rai. It was found that propaquizafop at the rate of 10-12 g(ai)/rai provided excellent control of annual grass weeds Digitaria adscendens (H.B.K.)Henr, Eleusine indica (L.) Roem.& Shultl. and (Echinochloa crus-galli L.Beauv.) The application of propaquizafop at the rate up to 12 g(ai)/rai showed non phytotoxicity in garlic. The use of propaquizafop for annual grass weeds control could increase yield of garlic up to 24 percent compared with non-weeded plot.

Influence of different additives on herbicidal efficacy in rice
1994
Street, J.E. (Mississippi State Univ., Stoneville (USA)) | Teresiak, H.
Field studies about the herbicidal efficacy of quinclorac with 280 g ai/ha and a mixture of propanil and molinate, each of them in tankmixture with different additives, were conducted from 1991 to 1993 in rice (Oryza sativa). Additives used in this study were defined to be either polyoxyethylene (POE), mineral-oil-based concentrates (MOC) or vegetable-oil-based concentrates (POC). Quinclorac controlled Echinochloa crus-galli (L.) Beauv. and Ipomoea lacunosa L. 80 % or greater when applied with BHC 864, Penetrator Plus or Primeoil 2. However, 9 out of 14 additives used in this study showed similar results. Propanil/molinate was studied with 10 additives on Echinochloa crus-galli, Ipomoea lacunosa, and Sesbania exaltata (Raf.) Rydb. ex A. W. Hill. In 1992 no significant differences among treatments occurred, but in 1993 some adjuvants increased efficacy of the herbicides. This is discussed in relation to different temperatures at application time in 1992 and 1993. Best results were found with Penetrator, Soysurf and Primeoil which are classified as penetrating agents. Other additives with the same classification did not perform as well. Both herbicides showed comparable results with some additives of POE, MOC and POC, but additives of the same group varied significantly in their response on herbicidal efficacy
