Effect of different media on the determination of the number of micro organisms in frozen prawns (shrimp)
1965
Rajagopal, M.V.
The Indian standards Institution have recently laid down specifications for the grading of frozen shrimp of which the bacterial examination of the product forms a significant part. Work carried out in this regard in our laboratories have shown that various improvements could be made in the composition of the medium to obtain a more true picture of the total bacterial count. Changes in the medium for total bacterial count have, therefore, been suggested and the reasons for the same discussed.

1965
Frost, S. W.
A large number of individuals of many insect species visited the flowers of milk—weed (Asclepias spp.). Most of these insects revealed pollinia attached to various appendages. Some were captured and held prisoners; others were able to free themselves. A relatively small number were able to avoid these traps. The largest number of pollinia adhered to the hairs of the tarsi, pulvilli, and mouth parts. This might be expected as these are the appendages most closely associated with flower visitation.

1965
Berry, James E. | Smith, Eldon D. | Rudd, Robert W.
This article analyzes the empirical results of a study of the relation of selected structural elements to price determination in eight Kentucky retail fertilizer markets. Multiple regression analysis indicated that at‐farm fertilizer price was significantly associated with buyer knowledge and deliberativeness, cooperative purchasing and number of seller firms; but not significantly associated with number of farms, size of purchases, number of purchases and distance. The results suggest that models analyzing prices at the farm level can be significantly improved by including relevant dimensions of buyer knowledge and farmer decision‐making processes as structural elements.

1965
Deutsch, Karl | Singer, J. David (Joel David) | Smith, Keith
A criterion is proffered for testing the organizing power of a theory: that theory is preferred to all alternative theories which has the highest ratio of the number of cases to which the theory applies to the number of essential variables which that theory must employ, holding constant the minimal accuracy and statistical significance demanded of the findings. The theory that industrial workers are more likely to vote for socialist parties than other workers is evaluated by this criterion. The distinguished authors are on the faculties of the universities of Michigan and Yale.

1965
Иванов, А. И.
The list of microalgal species was compiled anew to represent phytoplankton species reliably identified from the Black Sea plankton by the year 1964. The inventory includes 695 taxa of 149 genera. Compared to 1951, the total number of phytoplankton taxa has decreased to 469 and the quantitative proportion of taxa of main phytoplankton groups, excluding freshwater and freshwater-brackish, has slightly changed. In particular, Bacillariophyta have increased from 42.8 to 51.4% whereas Pyrrophyta, which increased by the number of taxa, have decreased from 42.0 to 34.8%. The combined portion of other taxa was estimated 13.8%.

1965
Liddy, D.T.
This paper examines the influence of two factors on the operation of a worsted spin ning set on the same input of work. The factors are the number of spinning frames in the set and the way in which the frames will be allotted to big lots. It uses the method of simulation on a simplified model of the set. Measures of the effect of changes in the factors are made in terms of delivery frequency and duration of delays and the in-process inventory. The effect of the fluctuating demand for frame time on the number of frames necessary to meet performance criteria is indicated.
