A field experiment was carried out to investigate the varietal difference of adaptability in environmental malcondition and to find out the relationship between nutrients content in the culms and the occurrence of wilting and lodging. Five rice varieties, Seogwangbyeo, Pungsanbyeo, Baegyangbyeo, Nampungbyeo and Palgwangbyeo, were grown at the artificially reduced soil condition with rice straw (500kg/10a) application at 15 days before transplanting and nitrogen (25kg/10a) without potassium. Lodging and wilting symptoms were prominent in Seogwangbyeo and Pungsbanbyeo of which heading date was Aug. 25
