Detection of verocytotoxin-producing Escherichia coli from cattle feces by PCR using pooled samples

From May to October 1995 in Kagoshima Prefecture, the rectal contents of 100 slaughtered healthy cattle were inoculated onto the SIB agar, and pooled samples of IPA-negative colonies produced were surveyed by PCR for verocytotoxin genes. The genes were readily detected from 12 of rectal content, and the detection of verocytotoxin-producing Escherichia coli was efficiently performed with the following serological and biochemical examination
