Despite concerns about bovine somatotropin contamination, milk has several health benefits. Milk contains calcium for bone development and maintenance and the prevention of osteoporosis. Calcium may also play a role in the prevention of colon cancer, reducing blood cholesterol and treatment of hypertension. Milk also contains B vitamins and vitamins A and D. A table provides the calcium content of a variety of foods. Lactose intolerance and lower fat milk products are also discussed.
