An historical report describes the food habits and nutritional value of such foods for early man as compared to current dietary practices. Changes in agriculture, sociocultural conditions and environmental factors are discussed, indicating greater health risks from current food and lifestyle practices. The need for health promoting alterations in such practices is emphasized.(wz)
