The diagnostic value of selected immune parameters in peripheral blood of dogs with malignant mammary tumours – a preliminary study
2024
Lisiecka Urszula | Brodzki Piotr | Śmiech Anna | Michalak Katarzyna | Winiarczyk Stanisław | Żylińska Beata | Adaszek Łukasz
The main adaptive immune cells are T and B lymphocytes and they play key roles in the induction of immune responses against canine mammary tumours. Investigating these cell subpopulations may lead to more precise diagnosis of these malignancies.

2024

Feline panleukopenia is a contagious viral disease caused by the feline panleukopenia virus (FPV). A closely related pathogen is canine parvovirus (CPV), and amino acid substitutions in this virus allow it to acquire a feline host range. In feline hosts, the disease induced by CPV manifests with similar symptoms to those caused by FPV or milder ones, leading to its underdiagnosis. The aim of this study was to determine the presence of CPV type 2 (CPV-2) in cats with clinical symptoms of panleukopenia and to assess the use of commercial CPV antigen tests for the clinical diagnosis of FPV.

2024
Żybura Adrianna | Jedziniak Piotr
The productivity of domestic animals and the safety of food products derived from them are jeopardised by mycotoxins in animal feed. To control them, feed additives are used, which limit the absorption of mycotoxins in the gastrointestinal tract of animals by binding to them. The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a new in vitro model in experiments on the binding of mycotoxins from buffers and contaminated feed and to confirm the effect of a single sorbent or mixture in binding them.

2024
Jagódka Dariusz | Kaczorek-Łukowska Edyta | Socha Piotr Andrzej
How bacterial infections of the reproductive tract cause infertility and the correlation between the health status of female dogs and the presence of Mycoplasma canis (M. canis) in the vagina are still unclear. The aim of this study was to determine the M. canis population in the vagina of breeding bitches and to correlate this microbial population with some fertility outcomes.

2024
Brodzki Piotr | Gorzkoś Hubert | Marczuk Jan | Lisiecka Urszula | Junkuszew Andrzej | Krakowski Leszek | Szczubiał Marek | Brodzki Nikodem | Głodkowska Katarzyna
The objective of this bovine peripheral blood study was a comparative assessment of the phagocytic activity of neutrophils and monocytes and of the intracellular killing capacity of neutrophils from cows given no probiotic and from cows which were administered a probiotic consisting of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus plantarum and Rhodopseudomonas palustris. These activity types were compared during different lactation periods.

2024
Kurhaluk Natalia | Grudniewska Joanna | Pękala-Safińska Agnieszka | Pajdak-Czaus Joanna | Terech-Majewska Elżbieta | Platt-Samoraj Aleksandra | Tkaczenko Halina
This study aimed to evaluate biomarkers of oxidative stress (2-thiobarbituric acid reactive substances, aldehyde and ketone derivatives of oxidatively modified proteins and total antioxidant capacity), the activity of antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione reductase and glutathione peroxidase), that of lysosomal enzymes (alanyl aminopeptidase, leucyl aminopeptidase, β-N-acetylglucosaminidase and acid phosphatase) and changes in biochemical parameters (alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, de Ritis ratio, lactate dehydrogenase activity, lactate and pyruvate levels and their ratio) in the liver tissue of fish that were vaccinated against enteric redmouth disease and challenged with its causative agent, the bacterium Yersinia ruckeri.

Ticks are obligate blood-feeding arthropods that cause significant economic losses in domestic animal husbandry and threaten public health. However, information about soft ticks (Acari: Argasidae) and tick-borne pathogens in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR) of China is scarce.

2024
Panayotova-Pencheva Mariana | Laskowski Zdzisław | Pyziel Anna Maria
Patagonian maras, rodents endemic to South America, are classified as a near-threatened species. Various factors affect their health including parasitic diseases. The aim of this study was to perform morphometric, molecular and phylogenetic characterisation of one such parasitic disease agent, the nematode Graphidioides affinis, specimens of which were found in captive Patagonian maras.

2024
Szymańczyk Sylwia | Kras Katarzyna | Osiak-Wicha Cezary | Kapica Małgorzata | Puzio Iwona | Antushevich Hanna | Kuwahara Atsukazu | Kato Ikuo | Arciszewski Marcin B.
This study investigated the effects of intragastric administration of apelin-13 on the secretion of critical pancreatic hormones in a cohort of three-week-old Wistar rats. The research aimed to uncover apelin’s modulatory roles in endocrine interactions dictating metabolic homeostasis during early life.
