Sorghum byproducts as feeds stuffs in the broiler mashes

Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the feeding value of three byproducts of sorghum for use in the rations of broiler chicks. In the first experiment, sorghum gluten replaced deoiled groundnut cake (DGNC) at 25, 50, 75 and 100% levels (w/w). In the 2nd experiment, the sorghum bran and sorghum oil-cake at 10 and 20% levels replaced the cereals and DGNC on equal nitrogen basis. The growth rate and feed conversion ration (FCR) were recorded upto 6 weeks of age in both the experiments. The performance of chicks was adversely affected (P0.05) as the level of sorghum gluten meal increased in the diet. The inclusion of the sorghum bran or the sorghum oilcake at 10 and 20% levels also, adversely affected the growth rate and efficiency of feed conversion. The poor performance of the broiler chicks may be due to presence of tannins or the poor protein quality due to processing sorghum grains during the extraction of starch
