Most of the varieties including the checks: UPL-C1, UPL-C2 and Deltapine 16 (A) and other deltapine strains from US were among those types highly preferred by the borer with the exception of some African cotton varieties. The borer moths preferred corn, cotton and Rottboellia exaltata L.f. for oviposition. Feeding preference tests showed that Rottboellia was essentially an oviposition site and cotton as feeding site. The ovipositional and feeding preferences of corn borer on different cotton varieties were not influenced by their morphological characteristics in terms of plant color, hairiness, nectariless, glandedness or frego bract characters
