Under various environmental conditions the investigated relative grain yields of winter rye varieties were slightly to highly similar and at the localities of Podravska Slatina and Slunj (SFRY) very reliable insight into variability of gain yield of some varieties tending to show this property under varied ecological conditions, has been obtained. These are mainly high-yielding varieties S-4 with grain yield of 5.063 t/ha and "Nomaro" with grain yield of 4.858 t/ha. The amino acid content of winter rye proteins is better than the amino acid content of wheat grain, especially regarding essential amino acids content, lysine in the first place. New winter rye assortment is characterized by some other good properties too.
