Effect of sodium orthophenyl phenolate (sopp) and thiabendazole as pre-packing treatments on the mycoflora of the orange rind [Egypt]

This work was carried out in El-Wadi Export company at Assiut city, during two working successive seasons (1985-1986 and 1987). The effect of sodium orthophenyl phenolate (SOPP) and thiabendazole as pre-packing treatments on mycoflora of orange rind was studied. The results indicated that: - Before washing the orange fruits, 20 species and 13 genera were isolated. Aspergillus niger represented the most dominant fungus (28.5% of the total count in first and second season, respectively). - Washing orange by water containing sodium orthophenyl phenolate caused great reduction in the number of isolated species (7 and 8) accompanied by a decrease in total count of fungi.
