The role of slaughterhouse inspection in the diagnosis and control of tuberculosis

The results reported here represent a very preliminary analysis of some data categories in the slaughterhouse tuberculosis database. It is apparent that the origin and reactor status of cattle found to have suspect-tuberculosis lesions in the slaughterhouse are important factors in determining the proportion of confirmed cases. Althouh the performance attributes of meat inspection procedures should remain constant, non-detection rates in different classes of slaughtered livestock will similarly reflect the above factors. Detailed epidemiology and cost-benefit analyses will be undertaken when the data set is sufficiently large to give statistically based comparisons in all desired data categories
