The study of the genotoxicity of drinking water by the application of the bone marrow cell culture

3H-thymidine incorporation into the chicken bone marrow cell culture of the suspension type with added concentrated organic phase of drinking water was studied. The results showed a marked inhibitory effect to 3H.thymidine incorporation into immature hematopoietic cells of drinking water in the quantity of 100 l which was added at doses of 2,20 and 60 microl, into 2 ml of suspension containing 20 x 106 cells. The difference between inhibition rates of 3H-thymidine incorporation into cell culture treated with concetrated driking water diluted into dimetril-sulfoxyde (DMSO) (53,2 to 68,3%) and only with DMSO (from 14,8 to 50,8%) reflected the marked toxical effect of the tested drinking water. Concentrated drinking water in the tested quantities inhibited DNA synthesis in the immature hematopoietic cell culture, suggesting its mutagenic and/or cancerogenic effect.
