There was an epidemic of enzootic Q fever in goats in the territory of the Konjic municipality (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Yugoslavia), 4 years ago, and a series of abortions recurred. There was determined the presence of small red rod-like structures which morphologically correspond to Coxiella burnetii, by microscopic analyses of samples of cotyledons and organs of the aborted fetus. Coxiella burnetii was isolated through passage of the material on ovum sacs of 7-day-old chick embryos and primary culture of chick fibroblasts. The sera of the animals which had aborted twice was examined serologically, by a reaction of complement binding, and a growth in the antibody titre was established. On two occasions human sera of the goat's herd owner and of the members of his family were examined. There were also determined antibody titre for Coxiella burnetii of 1:32 to 1:64 in four children. The second examination of these sera showed a gradual drop in antibody titre.
