Response of winter barley to soil conditions, nitrogen fertilization, seeding date and seeding density

Noworolnik, K. (Instytut Uprawy Nawozenia i Gleboznawstwa, Pulawy (Poland))
The highest grain yields were obtained on soils of the good wheat complex, light loam-textured, at pH of higher than 6, when barley was grown after root crops, oil crops or legumes. The optimum N dressing was dependent on soil quality and amounted 80 to 130 kg N/ha. On superior soils barley can be planted at 4 million grains per ha while on inferior ones a rate of 5 million grain per ha is recommended. No interaction was found between cultivars and the agricultural factors and edaphic conditions
