Effect of saccharides on proliferation and IgM production of human-human hybridomas

The effect of various saccharides was examined on the proliferation and IgM production of human-human hybridoma cells, HB4C5, cultured in serum-free medium. As relative cell number and relative IgM productivity of HB4C5 cells cultured in glucose-free medium maintained the highest level by supplementation with 20mM fructose, we surmised that fructose was a substitute for glucose as carbohydrate resource. Saccharides had no effects on relative cell number cultured in glucose-half (10mM) medium. Sixteen varieties of monosaccharides and several oligomers had no effects on proliferation and IgM production of HB4C5 cells. Among polysaccharides, locustbean gum and pectin showed the strongest IPSF activities at high concentrations
