It is well known that lipoxygenase in soybean is closely related to growth and development. It has been shown that the PEG pretreatment of soybean seed may accelerate the synthesis of protein in soybean hypocotyl. The results showed that lipoxygenase would decrease and protein content would increase in hypocotyl after PEG pretreatment of soybean seed. So the authors speculate that the decline of lipoxygenase activity was closely related to the raise of protein content in soybean hypocotyl
