A group of potato varieties has been examined in 21 trials and many complementary tests. The group includes varieties for the industrial production of French fries, crisps, and also of a table variety. None of the tested varieties satisfied the processing requirements. The French fries variety Santana is not suitable because of its internal rust-spot sensitivity. Helena fries well but its starch content is too low for industrial processing. The crisp variety Karlena has a low yield and does not show any improvement as compared with our standards. Exquisa is a firm-flesh table potato which is little suitable for processing
