Rice-based farming systems research and women in rice farming systems in Bontoc, Mountain Province [Philippines]

Improved cropping patterns were designed and tested in farmer's fields in Bontoc, Mountain Province [Philippines] from crop year 1988 to 1992. In addition, the role of women in the rice-based farming systems was assessed. Results revealed that the two cropping patterns, TPR-sweet potato and Rice + Fish-Fish, have economic advantage over the farmers' cropping pattern of Rice-Fallow. In the total labor force, women labor constituted 52 percent in rice production
