First some general information about the location, climate, soils and population of Suriname is given. Furthermore information is also given about various vegetable and root crops and the history, pre-cultivation, planting material, cultivation, post-cultivation, handling and socioeconomy of tomato, white cabbage, chinese cabbage, cucumber, eggplant, onion and some food legumes from the vegetable crops. From the root crops manioc and minor root crops like sweet potato and tannia, are discussed
