Chinese lawngrass (Zoysia sinica) is an excellent feed grass, soil stabilizing plant and a decorative herb. Its seeds, however, germinate hardly under natural condition because of the presence of a thin waxy layer which prohibits water and oxygen from entering the seed. In the experiments the seeds were treated first with solution of 0.5 percent of NaOH to solve the waxy layer, then treated with different chemicals (potassium nitrate, GA3, and hydrogen peroxide) singularly or in their different combinations. In the end, the germination ratio of the seed could be increased to the level of 88.25 percent.
