Kruonis (till 1992 - Kaisiadorys) pumped storage hydroelectric plant (PSHP) was provided to cover great irregularities of electricity consumption in the north-western part of the former USSR. Kruonis PSHP had to be one of the greatest in Europe. Designed capacity had to be 1600 MW, acting head approximately 110 m. Due to geohydrodynamic investigations denied one of main arguments against PSHP, helped to evaluate a seepage from the upper basin of Kruonis PSHP.
